2016 Cub Wide Game

2016 Cub Wide Game
Played during September through to December 2016
During Cub Leaders’ Conference this year we split leaders attending into three
groups to canvass their views, thoughts and ideas on the theme for this year’s wide
game.
Overwhelmingly the Leaders from each group wanted to focus attention on “the
Jungle book” and the main character Mowgli, who was raised by the wolf pack and
taught life skills through the various jungle creatures he encountered and the
teachings of the Laws that they all lived by.
It was agreed that the wide game should be flexible enough that an individual pack
could complete it over a number of weeks by running 2 - 3 bases as part of their
normal Pack nightly program, or as a District activity.
Your task is to set up ten (10) bases each with an activity that reflects the strength
of the nine (9) Jungle Book characters depicted on the next page. Each base shoul d
be no more than ten to fifteen minutes in duration and can be as simple or complex
as your imagination and resources allow. The final base ten (10) will be an activity on
our founder Robert Baden Powell.
The 2016 Wide game is based on
Pokemon Go and the Jungle Book

Passport
Leaders should look at designing a Pokemon JungleDex or ‘passport’ where they earn
points for each Cub or Six which they would carry with them on their journey. It
would be stamped or marked as each challenge base is completed.
At the end of the evening, all points are tallied and the total score will dictate the
amount of Pokeballs (Flour bombs) each six is allocated.
A finale will take place at the Pokemon Jungle Gym between the Pokemon Jungle
colours (Sixes)
Jamborees
It was also suggested that a picture or poster from a World Jamboree of each
decade could be displayed for Cubs to look at on each base. Like Mowgli our Cubs
are on their own journey with the end result being linked to the Scout Troop. One
of the major events that all Scouts look forward to attending is a Jamboree.
The threads of the story
Leaders will use their own imagination to create their own story from this thread…
Cubs will undertake their own ramble through the jungle on a quest of discovery and
learning as Mowgli did. They (our Cubs) begin to understand the strengths that each
Jungle Book character passed to Mowgli through their teachings and by doing
challenges depicting those strengths.
Cubs will travel in their ‘six’ and will follow a combination of trail signs and compass
bearings to arrive at each base and complete the task at hand.
As always, Cubs will have to be ever vigilant for those Bandarlog Monkeys as they
are known to ambush Mowgli as he rambles through the Jungle on his quest to learn
jungle skills. A ready supply of Pokeballs (Flour Bombs) will normally fend off their
attacks.
Banderlog Leaders will have a similar amount of Pokemon Jungle balls (flour bombs)
to join the the final Pokemon Gym battle.
Reward for Effort
A special badge that comprise 9 of the Jungle Book characters depicted on each
