a Terror whales
My name is Leonardo. I’m a wildlife
photographer. This is a true story.
One summer I was with some friends
in my boat on the Mediterranean Sea.
The weather was sunny and hot and it
wasn’t windy. My friends, Jan and
Alex, were in the water hoping to see
some dolphins, but for a long time
there weren’t any animals near.
Suddenly a group of whales
appeared next to the boat. There
were four adults and three babies.
My friends were frightened because
the whales were very near them but
the whales weren’t aggressive - they
were very calm.
b Help for whales c Fishing in the sea
One of the baby whales was hurt.
There was a fishing hook in its back.
It was horrible. The whales looked at
me and my friends - I think they were
asking for help. Alex was very near
the baby and he pulled out the hook.
For a moment there wasn’t a sound.
Then the whales swam around the
boat three times and disappeared
into the deep blue sea.

Hi, we’re the Thomson
family. We always recycle
the rubbish. My dad says I
mustn’t put plastic and
paper in the same bag and
I must protect animals
when they’re in danger. I
usually have a shower and
not a bath because I
don’t want to waste water.
My family sometimes recycles the
rubbish but not always. I go
fishing with my brother and we
sometimes have a picnic. We’re
very careful. We know we mustn’t
leave our rubbish by the river. We
don’t make fires because we
mustn’t destroy animals’ habitats.
My mum never recycles the
rubbish. She hasn’t got much
time, she’s always working. She
throws everything away in one
big bag. She says I mustn’t
waste water and I mustn’t
waste electricity but I never
turn off the lights because I’m
frightened of the dark.
