Oil, grease, anti-freeze, and other toxic automotive
fluids often make their way into the City of Monroe
storm drain system. These pollutants do not get
treated before reaching our local creeks and streams.
•
Motor Oil & Transmission Fluid - Maximum of five
(5) gallons each. Must be poured into specified container. Accepted free of charge at the Landfill and all
6 collection sites.
The following tips will help prevent this type of pollution and protect our drinking water.
•
Clean and healthy creeks, rivers, and
streams are important to the City of
Monroe. However, not properly disposing of used oil can lead to water pollution. If you pour or drain oil onto driveways, sidewalks or streets, it can be
washed into our storm drains. Unlike water
in sanitary sewers (from sinks and toilets),
water in storm drains is not treated before
entering our streams. Help prevent water
pollution by taking your used oil to a used
oil collection center.
Included in this brochure is a list of locations that will accept used motor oil at
no cost. Many will also accept used oil
filters. Please contact the facility before
delivering your used oil.
