comments

The Speaker of the House
of Commons has caused
controversy
by
saying
Donald Trump is unfit to
address MPs. John Bercow
said he would refuse to
invite the US president to
speak
at
Westminster
because of parliament’s
long-held opposition “to
racism and to sexism”.
The unprecedented step
has been praised by some MPs, but angered others in the government who say he has
overstepped the mark. Speaking on BBC Radio 4 Today’s programme, the communities
secretary, Sajid Javid, said Bercow ‘doesn’t speak for the government’ on Trump.
What do our readers think? Here is a round-up of a selection of comments on the subject.

Raleigh, N. C. — The Triangle is the
seventh best place to live in the
United States.
In the U. S. News and World Report's
ranking of the 100 most populous
metro areas , the Raleigh-DurhamChapel Hill metro area beat out other
cities, like Boston, Colorado Springs
and Nashville, Tennessee to claim
the seventh slot. The central North
Carolina metro also ranked seven
spots higher than Charlotte, which
came in 14th.
The media company assessed each metro area's job market, quality of life and net migration,
among other factors , to determine the ranking.
Bountiful green spaces, an educated, diverse workforce, and a smattering of craft breweries
were all noted in the highlights of Triangle living. Those, along with a low unemployment rate
and growing housing market, gave a bump to the rank.

John Legend, Cynthia Erivo to perform Grammys' In
Memoriam
2.2
LOS ANGELES (AP) — John
Legend and Broadway star Cynthia
Erivo will be singing a Beach Boys
song at Sunday's Grammy Awards.
Executive producer Ken Ehrlich
announced Tuesday that Legend
and Erivo will perform a new
arrangement of "God Only Knows"
during the show's In Memoriam
segment.
The veteran producer was listening
to music at home when he suddenly
heard the 50-year-old song in a new
way.
"I heard that song for the first time in the context of loss — not lost love, but in the context of what
would I be without you, someone who's gone? " said Ehrlich, who is producing his 37th Grammy
Awards this year. "And I played it again, and then I played it again. And then when I wiped away
the tear — which seriously I had — I said, 'This is what we need to do this year. This is the
song,'" adding, "It's by far my favorite Beach Boys' song. "
He imagined a slower version for In Memoriam, which he quickly arranged on piano, then
tapped Legend and Erivo to perform it.
"They both sparked to it and said yes," Ehrlich said. "It's not a song that's written by someone
who is in the In Memoriam segment, but it's about it, and it really resonates. "
As for whom to include in the segment, Ehrlich said a committee at the recording academy
circulates a list of more than 500 names, which must be whittled down to 50 for the three-minute
package.
Still, he finds the task of putting the segment together so heart-wrenching, he hands it off to a
fellow producer.
"There are people that I would put in there, but it's not about me," Ehrlich said. "It's about the
music industry as a whole and all of its parts: classical and rock and pop and Latin and jazz. So
it's a difficult process. ... One of my co-producers on the show kind of shepherds it because
otherwise I think it could be so time-consuming that it would eat me up. "

Marvel Superheroes On Song And In Tune
When they’re not busy
saving the world and
battling enough emotional
insecurities to fill a small
country there’s a whole host
of
Marvel
superheroes
who’ve appeared in popular
song – let’s take a look at a
select few.
It may be the most obvious
but it couldn’t really be left of
the list could it? Well it
could,
because
Black
Sabbath’s riff-riddled epic was not really written about the Marvel character at all.
Ozzy Osbourne originally titled the song “Iron Bloke,” which has a very British ring to it but
doesn’t really translate well when striving to capture the playboy lifestyle of billionaire Tony
Stark.
It’s a little know fact that Macca is a huge Marvel fan, as this B-side song to 1975 Wings single
“Venus and Mars/Rock Show” aptly demonstrates. As a song, “Magneto and Titanium Man” is
not really in the same league as “Hey Jude,” but how can you argue with such emotive lyrics as,
“You couldn’t be bad, Magneto was mad! Titanium too! And the Crimson Dynamo just couldn’t
cut it no more, you were the law…” Strewth Paul! What you been smoking?
The Wedding Present’s singer David Gedge isn’t a million miles removed from Peter Parker.
They both have self obsessions with rejection, inadequacy and loneliness and never seem to
get the girl.
In “Spiderman On Hollywood,” the webbed wonder is referenced purely in terms of the multifaceted illusions of love. Here’s a sample snippet for you, “I thought I saw a superhero but it was
just Spiderman in Hollywood, I thought I saw a supermodel but she had hair where I don’t think
she should, Yes, things can be a parody of what they first appear to be.” Pass the Prozac if you
please.
You always get the impression with a character like Wolverine that he’s a bit of a punk rocker at
heart, which makes Rancid’s tribute to him even more apt.
The song “Sidekick” is a pretty much a wish fulfillment exercise on behalf of fanboys
everywhere. It starts with the lines, “I had i dream I was a vigilante sidekick, my name is Tim I’m a
lesser known character.”
It then goes on to explain how the “Sidekick” and Wolverine go on to right the wrongs caused by
urban decay. Let’s hope One Direction never decide to cover it.
And the award for the most superheroes featured in one song goes to 1960’s hippies Country
Joe & The Fish.
Granted they do mention Superman who belongs not to the Marvel universe, but that other camp
(whisper it) DC, but the psychedelic rockers also name check Dr. Strange and the Fantastic
Four.
The song basically revolves around kicking President Lyndon B. Johnson out of government
and back to Texas to work on his ranch.
Of course the rockabilly revolutionaries are only able to do this with the help of Marvel’s heroes
to help the much despised LBJ on his way.

Bruce Springsteen superfan gets 100 concert tattoos
A superfan has seen Bruce
Springsteen in concert for the
100th time, after travelling the
globe to see The Boss since
1985. And he has the tattoos to
prove it.
Mark Ryder travelled from
Yorkshire, England to Australia
in January after he bought a
ticket for all 14 performances
in Australia and New Zealand.
The Englishman has been a
faithful follower for 32 years,
after Springsteen first captured his attention with his Born in the USA tour.
Mark Ryder has spent more than 70 hours in the tattoo parlour to create his back tattoo of all
things Bruce Springsteen
'I bought the t-shirt that night and I've worn in to every concert since,' he told ABC News .
Mr Ryder's obsession did not start and end with the concerts, he also boasted a full back tattoo
in celebration of the star.
A self-described follower of the Springsteen church of rock and roll, Mr Ryder's back tattoo
features all things Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Mr Ryder said he spent more than 70 hours in the tattoo parlour for the artwork, but was eager to
have more work done.
'I keep adding to it. It's like, as Bruce blossoms, so does my tattoo.'
He said the creation lacked just one thing; Springsteen's signature.
Mr Ryder was not the only fanatic to travel half way across the world to catch Springsteen's
Australia and New Zealand tour.

Fellow Englishman Brian Burke also flew from the UK to Australia to see Springsteen in concert
for the 63rd time.
Mr Burke recalled the moment he booked the tickets online, during a camping trip in rural
Romania.
'It was about 4 o'clock in the morning and I was frantically trying to find wi-fi and a light enough
area to see the buttons to order the tickets,' he said.
Mr Burke said he even woke his wife up to help buy the tickets so he would not miss out.
He said his wife was a patient woman for dealing with his Springsteen obsession.
Mr Burke admitted his obsession with the star was fanatical, but had no plan to give it up.

Anthony Joshua steps up training for Wladimir
Klitschko
2.6
Anthony Joshua is leaving no
stone unturned as he prepares
for his world heavyweight title
clash with Wladimir Klitschko
at Wembley.
The 27-year-old will defend his
IBF title for the third time and
also contest the WBA belt,
vacated by Tyson Fury, when
he takes on the veteran
Ukrainian in front of a crowd of
90,000 fans at the home of
English football.
Joshua is now firmly entrenched in his training camp ahead of the contest, which is his 19th as a
professional, with the former Olympian adopting a wide range of techniques to ensure he is at
his physical peak to take on the 40-year-old.
Anthony Joshua's strength and conditioning coach, Jamie Reynolds, posted this image
Joshua had earlier posted a workout video ahead of his fight with Wladimir Klitschko in April
Joshua posted a video of himself using a squat machine, with a maximum resistance of 378kg
The heavyweight champion captioned his video 'Eeeeaazyyyyyy' as he worked out to music
He took to Instagram to show off one of those methods, as he posted a video of himself working
out on a squat machine which targets the lower body to ensure the user is capable of 'explosive
power'. A vital ability for a boxer.
As Joshua worked out on the machine he was backed by up-tempo dance music while letting
out grunts with every lift, with the video captioned 'Eeeeaazyyyyyy' for his social media followers.
The machine can offer 378kg of resistance, which equates to more than three times Klitschko's
heaviest fighting weight of 112kg in his second fight against Samuel Peter in September 2010.
Joshua filmed himself working out using a Air300 Squat machine, made by Keiser.
The low impact squat machine allows the user to enhance their explosive power from the lower
body, while including a range limiter which ensures there is no danger of ligament or joint
injuries in the knee.
It offers a resistance range from as little as 18kg, all the way up to 378kg, which is as much as
opponent Klitschko weighed when at his heaviest.
Joshua and Klitshchko pictured at a press conference in New York on Tuesday, January 31
Joshua's strength and conditioning coach, Jamie Reynolds, also used Instagram to post an
image of his man preparing for the Klitschko fight, captioned '@anthony_joshua starting the
week strong'.
The two fighters came face to face in New York on January 3`, as they promoted their upcoming
fight at both Madison Square Garden and again in Times Square.
It was there Joshua reiterated his goal ahead of the contest and insisted he was well aware of
the challenge Klitschko will pose.
'I know I'm going to be facing the best Wladimir,' Joshua told Sky Sports.
'I think the time is right. It may seem soon to people. This is my gold medal fight once again.
Klitschko posted this picture on Instagram after the two met together in Times Square
'I'm here for a reason. I'll handle business the way I've always handled it. The goal is the same to be victorious.'
Klitschko took to Instagram after the pair's meeting, where he insisted he is ready to join the
greats of the heavyweight division.
He wrote: 'I am obsessed with my goal to become three-time world champion and join the
legends Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.'

Shakira’s New Album & Songs for 2017: If Her “Hips
Don’t Lie,” Fans Could See New Music This Year!
2.6
We’ve already gotten a sample of Shakira’s new songs for 2017, but we need more! Without
Shakira’s new songs, the year of music is missing something special that only she can bring to
it. Fans have been questioning the “Chantaje” singer’s absence lately and they can’t wait for her
latest project! Luckily for them, we have some good news that might help Shakira fans discover
what the singer has been up to.
We know it seems like Shakira has been missing in action from the music scene for a while, but
the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer has been keeping busy being a mother, starring in Zootopia ,
philanthropy and more. Now, thanks to her new single, “Chantaje,” the singer and mother of two
is challenging her fans! Shakira is challenging her fans to send videos showing of their best
“Chantaje” moves and the winner will win a trip for two to Barcelona
to meet Shakira, and have the chance to go to an FC Barcelona
game! Who says Shakira doesn’t give back?
To enter, all fans have to do is make a dance video (60 seconds
max) and post it on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag
#ChantajeChallengeContest before midnight, on February 8.
Contestants must be at least 15 years old and the contest is open to
residents in the U. S., Brazil, Peru, Colombia, France, Germany,
Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Poland, El Salvador, Dominica
Republic, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
We still can’t believe Shakira turned 40 on Thursday! When you’re a
megastar, there’s only one way to celebrate: By releasing the salsa
version of her hit song, “Chantaje!” Both versions of the songs
featured fellow Colombian performer, Maluma, who tweeted birthday wishes to the 40-year-old
singer.
Fundacion Pies Descalzos (a Columbian charity founded by Shakira) and UNICEF (for which
Shakira is a Goodwill Ambassador) also tweeted out to the birthday girl on her big day! Shakira
spent her big night with her husband, Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique, who also celebrated
his birthday on the same day! January 2 is certainly a special day for the couple, who have two
children together named Milan and Sasha.
Last year, the 40-year-old singer hinted at releasing her 11th studio album, following her 2014
self-titled production, Shakira. Last February, the singer teased her fans on Instagram about
writing some new songs. At a press conference, in 2015, Shakira said she was going to start
working on an album for 2016.
“By the end of this year or the beginning of the next year I will start working on my new album in
the studio,” she said. “Now I want to be first and foremost a mother, because after three months I
will no longer have a baby. He will be grown up as a healthy one years old boy,” she added.
Fast forward to now and fans are still waiting for Shakira’s new album. The Colombian singer
has been busy trying new things and focusing on her family, so we can’t blame her for that! Now,

Justin Bieber and Rita Ora set tongues wagging on
Snapchat
0.0
They were rumoured to have enjoyed a fleeting romance following her split to Calvin Harris in
2014.
Now, Justin Bieber , 22, and Rita Ora , 26, have set tongues wagging once again as they shared
a candid video on Snapchat of them singing together.
The singing duo hinted that a
possible collaboration could
be on the cards as they dueted
to All My Life by K-Ci and JoJo
on Monday night.
In the clip shared on Rita's
account,
the
Canadian
hitmaker could be seen
twinkling the ivories with
aplomb to the famed 1997
R&B hit.
Complementing
Justin's
aptitude on the piano, ANTM
host Rita - who has been in Los Angeles recording new music - put her own spin on the
Grammy nominated song, singing: 'And I know that you feel the same way too' in her soft dulcet
tones.
The late night clip had Justin giving the former X Factor judge some guidance as she put her
spin on the classic, simply saying: 'Turn it around'.
Happy with their effort, the pair began to playfully sing 'hey' as Rita wowed in the possible
collaboration teasing video as Justin appeared relaxed in his muted toned ensemble.

Rita Ora dressed to impress as she attended Tom Ford's New York Fashion Week party,
wearing a dress by the designer himself, naturally.
She chose a rust-hued sequin number for the occasion, teamed with pink metallic heels,
resulting in a super glamorous overall look.
Somehow Tom Ford always makes sequins look like the height of sophistication and in this case
we think it's down to the slinky cut, sexy spaghetti straps and cool bronze palette. Rita's exact
dress isn't available to buy but click right for a similar style by the much-coveted designer.

MailOnline have contacted Rita Ora and Justin Bieber's reps for comment.
Rita has previously confessed to harbouring a crush for the global superstar.
In 2014, during an appearance on 4Music, the Fifty Shades star said, when asked if she fancied
the Baby hitmaker: 'Who doesn't?
'I like how he's evolved, he's growing up, he's doing his thing. I like his stance and how he
carries himself.'

This came after they were romantically linked following her split from Scottish DJ Calvin Harris.
At the time of Rita and Calvin's break-up nearly four years ago, Justin was cited as one of the
reasons for their romance coming to an end.
A source told TMZ at the time: 'Word got back to Calvin, Justin and Rita got touchy feely with
each other while they were in the recording studio together over the last few months.
'Calvin heard they were very affectionate - she would sit on his lap [and] he would rub her back.'

Their all-singing appearance comes after they were last seen together in June, enjoying a night
out on the tiles at celeb hotspot Warwick.
The pals were spotted emerging from the club in the small hours, they seemed to be trying to
hide the fact they were together, the usually bold stars suddenly coming over all shy.
Since then, Rita came to the What Do You Mean singer's defense after he 'punched' a fan in
Barcelona in November.
The Body On Me songstress said she can empathise with the pop star who struck out at 18-yearold fan Kevin Ramirez and left him with a bloodied lip after he reached through the window of
Justin's moving car to touch his face.

'I'm not speaking for anybody, but knowing him and his incredible background, I know how it
feels to be uncomfortable and scared,' Rita mused.
'I feel like anyone who had a hand in their face is going to protect themselves,' she added,
insisting that the 22-year-old's reaction to the excitable fan was natural, and purely a way of
defending himself from an apparent threat.
She said she has found herself in similar situations in the past and admitted it was a 'scary'
experience.
Talking to Metro , Rita said: 'There are definitely moments where [fans] cross over the boundary
of it becoming almost scary.'
