ADJUDICATORS FOR THE EISTEDDFOD
REBECCA THOMPSON BA (Hons) LLAM (Hons)
Rebecca graduated from Bristol University with a Joint Honours Degree in English and Drama.
On graduating, she worked for BBC Radio Four’s Drama Department, reading and assessing new
scripts and also researching Radio Four Documentaries. After further journalism and corporate
work, Rebecca studied for her Licentiate Teacher’s Diploma at the London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Art.
She has been teaching Speech and Drama privately and in schools for over 15 years; she was
Head of the drama department at a preparatory school for over ten years. Rebecca now runs a
thriving Speech and Drama practice from her home in Bristol, teaching both children and adults.
Additionally a voice and presentation skills coach in the region, Rebecca teaches in private and
state schools, colleges and businesses. Rebecca has been actively involved in theatre in the
South West and is an Adjudicator for the Rose Bowl.
Rebecca loves teaching Speech and Drama, giving students the opportunity to grow in confidence
and expertise in their vocal skills. A festival experience provides a supportive environment for the
children to develop these skills further.
CAROLINE DIFFLEY
Born in the Brighouse and Rastrick area of Yorkshire, Caroline Diffley attended Badminton School,
Bristol, after which she went on to study the piano at the Royal College of Music in London. While
at the College she gained diplomas in both piano teaching and piano performing; her teachers
were Lamar Crowson, David Parkhouse and Malcolm Binns. She also spent a term at the
Academia Chigiana in Siena, working with both Guido Agosti and the pianist Arturo Michelangeli.
During a teaching career spanning four decades, she has taught in Kent (at the Kent Music
School) in Oxford (at the Dragon School) and widely in the South West. She taught piano at Wells
Cathedral School, working with both specialist and main-school students and at Dartington College
of Arts for twelve years. She now runs a private teaching practice in Exeter, as well as working for
the South West Music School both as a tutor and as a mentor. Caroline is an extremely
experienced Associated Board examiner and has examined all over the UK and the Far East, as
well as in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. She is also on the Diploma examining panel, the
Presenter panel and is a Music Medals moderator. She has been a mentor on the CT ABRSM
course and is currently a busy adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals.
She has also published articles on various aspects of piano teaching and learning.
She has two grown-up children and lives in Exeter with her husband, who is a Professor of Italian.

adjudicator member of the British Federation of Music Festivals and works extensively throughout
the United Kingdom and abroad. Many compositions of Church music by him have been
published with several performances on BBC Radio. He recently returned to adjudicate at the
Hong Kong Festival.
He is now living in Dorset where he is continuing to freelance as a performer and adjudicator. He
