Vaughn Lawrence Naturopath & Herbalist Partnering with God in Health and Wellness Series Class One God’s Design – Exploring The Amazing Human Body I. THE HUMAN BODY IS A COMPLEX, BEAUTIFUL AND FASCINATING CREATION A. Creation. In the beginning… God put an amazing amount of thought, effort and creativity into each one of us. He delights in each and every creation in its own unique way. It shows how much He loves and adores us. So God created in His own image… male and female… (Gen 1:27) (Mt. 10:30; Col 1:15-17; Ps. 139:13-16; Job 10:8-12) B. The evidence of creation is clearly seen and has been recognized throughout history. Incredibly, it is new discoveries in science that point to intelligent design by God as the only logical conclusion. II. THE INTRICATE COMPOSITION OF GOD’S DESIGN A. The human body is composed of over 100 trillion cells – each with a unique blueprint. It’s the same for fingerprints, snowflakes, water molecules and even individual blades of grass, each is one of a kind. B. Cells combine to make tissues, which combine to make tissues, muscles, glands and organs, which combine to make complex systems, which combine to make YOU! C. Cells are the source of life. Everything happens at the cellular level. Each cell needs specific replacement parts such as water, minerals, vitamins and amino acids D. Your car was designed. It’s designer specified the exact replacement parts needed to keep it running smoothly, efficiently and for many years. Your cells, therefore your body, are no different. E. Upon what foundation are we building our temples? ... I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended the floods came, and the winds blew and beat the house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. … a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. (Mt. 7:24-27) F. The basic components of the human body are water, vitamins, minerals, amino acids(proteins), fats and sugar (carbohydrates). Deficiencies in any of these lead to sickness, degeneration and/or dis-ease. 9341 W 75th St | Overland Park, KS 66204 | 913-901-0277 | Spiritofhealthkc.com And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and man became a living being. (Gen 2:7) G. The human body is designed as a network of over 250,000 miles of tubes and passageways. As these tubes become smashed, cut, burned, weak, inflamed, or blocked, health problems ensue. H. There are literally thousands of details of the human body that have been discovered, thousands more yet to be discovered, and probably millions more we may never discover. We must approach our limited understanding with humility, awe and wonder. Charles Darwin: “To suppose that the eye (with so many parts all working together)… could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.” III. GOD CREATED THE BODY TO BE A SELF-HEALING MECHANISM A. Sin entered the world through Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Physical death is therefore inevitable until we receive our resurrected bodies at the return of Jesus Christ. However, while we are on this earth, we are called to care for our physical bodies to be an in-dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone defiles (destroys) the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. (I Cor. 3:16-17) B. When we get a cold or flu, we recover. When we cut our finger or twist an ankle, it heals. When we break a bone it repairs itself, sometimes even stronger than before. So do doctors heal the body, or does the body heal itself? What methods are we using to allow God’s design as a self-healing mechanism to take effect? Think about our current standard of practice in America for medicine. C. If muscles, bones, skin and other issues are able to heal, how about more serious issues? Diabetes, cancer, thyroid disease, adrenal failure, kidney stones, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Diabetes, macular degeneration, osteoporosis and the list goes on… If we believe the lies of the world, the answer is yes. The world will tell you that our God is not big enough and/or this body He created is not strong enough to heal itself. D. Do we believe that God’s design randomly fails? EVERYTHING the body does is an attempt to heal itself. It was God’s design from the beginning, and our God never changes. E. We take for granted the amazing resilience of the human body. It always fights and it never quits. There are battles going on at the cellular level that are beyond comprehension. Even with everything we throw at our body in today’s processed and artificial world, it continues to fight for health, balance and wellness. Are we partnering in this process, or hindering it? 9341 W 75th St | Overland Park, KS 66204 | 913-901-0277 | Spiritofhealthkc.com Intelligent Design – The Amazing Human Body 630 muscles and 206 bones 100 trillion cells – Each with a unique blueprint. Same with fingerprints, grass, snowflakes and water. Brain transmits 1,000 impulses every second Each brain cell can hold the equivalent information of five encyclopedias Heart pumps 30 million times per year Cardiovascular system is over 100,000 miles long Largest cell in human body – female egg. Smallest cell – male sperm. Equally important! You replace over one billion new cells daily Human bone is strong as granite and can support 9 tons of weight When we touch something, the signal goes to our brain at 124mph Our skeleton is renewed every 3 months and our skin every 27 days The eyes have over 130 million receptors and can distinguish over one million different colors One square inch of skin has 9 feet of blood vessels, 600 pain receptors and 9,000 nerve sensors More living organisms on skin of one person than humans on the earth Babies dream before they are born A fetus has a fingerprint at 9 months Length of your foot is same as elbow to wrist – The body is mathematical perfection Organs can completely regenerate, the liver does this best Average of over 100,000 hairs on your head (God tells us they all are numbered) 11 Systems of the Human Body 1)The integumentary system supports and protects, regulates body temperature, makes chemicals and hormones, and acts as a sense organ. 2)The skeletal system supports and protects, makes movement easier (with joints), stores minerals, and makes blood cells. 3)The muscular system brings about body movement, maintains posture, and produces heat. 4)The nervous system allows a person to communicate with the environment and integrates and controls the body. 5)The endocrine system secretes hormones into the blood that serve to communicate with, integrate, and control mechanisms. 6)The circulatory system transports substances through the body and establishes immunity. 7)The lymphatic system is a subdivision of the circulatory system. It does not contain blood, but rather lymph, which is formed from the fluid surrounding body cells and diffused into lymph vessels. The major functions of the lymphatic system are the movement of fluid and its critical role in the defense against disease. 8)The respiratory system exchanges oxygen from the air for the waste product carbon dioxide, which is eliminated from the body. 9)The digestive system breaks down food, absorbs nutrients, and excretes solid waste. 10)The urinary system cleans waste products from blood in the form of urine and maintains electrolyte balance, water balance, and acid-base balance. 11)The reproductive system produces sex cells, allows transfer of sex cells and fertilization to occur, permits development and birth of offspring, nourishes offspring, and produces sex hormones. 9341 W 75th St | Overland Park, KS 66204 | 913-901-0277 | Spiritofhealthkc.com
