ISOC COMMUNITY GRANDS PROJECT EDUCATIVE INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER PROJECT 2nd INTERIM REPORT DATE OF THE REPORT: May 23th, 2011. A description of the activities undertaken by the Project during the reporting period. The following Activities were completed: -‐ Meeting with the principals of schools to define alternatives to secure the client equipments. Buying the second part of the wireless equipment. During the first part of the project, it was necessary to buy the required equipment to provide the connections to the schools by the University network infrastructure. In the second part, it was necessary to buy the required equipment to provide a wireless network connection between the SEDUCA (Servicio Departamental de Educación), and the schools selected. -‐ Get lessons from a network consultant. We receive lessons about network integration analysis, because of the two technologies involved in the process. -‐ Network Wireless Design of the schools for the pilot Project, The propagation signal analysis. There were choosing four infrastructures were there are located eight schools, two schools for each infrastructure taking in consideration the student population, and the network infrastructure possibilities. However, there were made a network design in order to cover four points to get a complete coverage as is needed for SEDUCA. -‐ Base Station Installed in the SEDUCA Infrastructure. The Base Station was implemented in the main point of the wireless coverage, which is located in the SEDUCA Headquarter. Discussion of the performance to date against the goals of the Project We have suffered delays because: -‐ The second part of the equipments arrived in June. -‐ -‐ The internet service was flapping. -‐ ĞĐĂƵƐĞ ŽĨƚŚĞ ĞƋƵŝƉŵĞŶƚƐ ďŽƵŐŚƚ ǁĞ ĐŽƵůĚŶ͛ƚ ŐĞƚ ƚŚĞ ĞŝŐŚƚ ĞƋƵŝƉŵĞŶƚƐ ƉůĂŶŶĞĚ͕ ďƵƚ ǁĞ
reach four infrastructures with two schools in each infrastructure. -‐ We are not getting the goals in the way of implementation. -‐ During the design part there was made a site survey test of the radio frequency. Outcomes & Achievements -‐ It was designed the wireless network for the schools. -‐ It was bought last part of the equipments in order to implement the EISP infrastructure. -‐ It was installed the base station equipment in the SEDUCA location. Lessons learned & Disappointments Lesson Learned It is necessary to implement a wireless network educative independent infrastructure, and have a point to point link with the university wireless infrastructure. Because administrative issues, since both institutions needed security in the wireless environment. Disappointments dŚĞĞƋƵŝƉŵĞŶƚďŽƵŐŚƚǁĂƐŶ͛ƚƚŚĞƉůĂŶŶĞĚŵŽĚĞůƐƚŚŝŶŬŝŶŐĨŽƌƚŚĞĚĞƐŝŐŶ͕ďĞĐĂƵƐĞin the first place a skypilot fabric issue, besides the price of getting the new equipment in Cobija was very expensive. Delay in receive the equipments. Delay in the network design and radio frequency site survey. Delay because of the parades of the departmental education system in the country. Why there are any changes in the design of the Project and discuss the implications for future work In the first place, the equipment model was the change. In the second place wireless network independent infrastructures between the university and the SEDUCA (Main entity that manage the schools in the country), so the equipments must have work in different frequencies and the Schools wireless network must be Skypilot different technology. Next steps: Get configured the equipments. Get installed the 4 CPE (Schools Location) equipments. Get installed the software. Teach the how to of the software to the administrative personal of the schools.
