GATE Funding Policy FAQs Q. Does the new GATE Policy apply only to first year undergraduate students, or UWI students of all years? A. It applies to all undergraduate students except those in non-GPA programs such as MB.BS, DDS & DVM programs; Certificate and Diploma programmes. Q. Which GPA is being taken into consideration, my Semester GPA or my Cumulative GPA? A. The Policy refers to your Cumulative GPA at the end of the preceding academic year. Q. Where can I find my Cumulative GPA? A. It is carried at the end of your academic transcript. Q. How do I calculate my Cumulative GPA for the academic year? A. For the purpose of this Policy, the Cumulative Grade Point Average is the GPA obtained by dividing the total grade points earned by the total quality hours for which the student has registered since entry to UWI, excluding courses taken on a Pass/Fail basis, Audited courses, Not for Credit courses, Co-curricular courses, Preliminary courses, Incomplete and In Progress Courses. Q. What would I have to pay if my Cumulative GPA falls below 1.00? A. You can view the Undergraduate Financial Information Booklet at http://www.sta.uwi.edu/ which lists the tuition fees by Faculty as well as other compulsory fees, OR you can contact the Student Accounts section of the Bursary at 662-2002 exts. 82137, 83382, 83379 or 82143. Q. Will The University notify me if I’m required to pay my own tuition fees? A. No. You are required to carefully check your academic transcript. Q. How do I compute my tuition fees for each semester? A. This information can be found in the Undergraduate Financial Information Booklet at http://www.sta.uwi/edu/. To calculate the tuition payable each semester, multiply the number of credits you have registered for that semester by the respective Faculty per credit fee as quoted in the Financial information booklet. Q. My Cumulative GPA fell below 1.00, yet my transcript says that I am in “Good academic standing.” Am I still required to fund my own tuition? A. Yes. Once your Cumulative GPA is below 1.00, you are required to pay your own tuition. Q. Can I take a Leave of Absence (LOA) if I am unable to pay my fees? A. Yes, you can apply for LOA within the stipulated timeframe carried in the Academic Calendar. Q. How long can I take LOA for? A. The maximum period allowed for LOA is two consecutive years. Q. How do I apply for LOA? A.
