The 2012 Thanksgiving Special Offering...is being received in our congregation on
November 11th and 17th this year. Your gift to the Thanksgiving Offering helps Disciples
educational institutions provide a nurturing environment where students form their
vision of the future, find their voice in the exchange of ideas, and prepare for their
vocation. The Thanksgiving Offering helps provide an education that forms students
spiritually as well as intellectually. Because of your gifts, these students’ lives, and
thousands of other lives, have been changed. Please give generously to this year’s
Thanksgiving Offering. Envelopes for this special offering are available in the pew racks.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER...We will NOT have a Wednesday Night Dinner this week
so that everyone can prepare to have Thanksgiving dinner with their families on
Thursday, November 22nd. Enjoy, and be thankful for all we have!
If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is
“Thank You”, it will be enough.
— Meister Eckhart
Spud Lunch last Sunday was successful beyond expectations; The intention was to raise
at least $500 for the purchase of one cow for a needy family in a third-world country, and
they raised almost $1,100 — enough to buy animals for two families! Never
underestimate the power of the next generation!
Pies, Pies, and more Pies!...Once again, this Thanksgiving, First Christian will be
uplifting the Brown Academy teachers with pies to take home with them Thanksgiving
week. If you could make or purchase a pie—pumpkin, pecan, or any other— and bring
it on Sunday, November 18, we will distribute them to the teachers on Monday. The
principal has told us that the teachers have been delighted and so thankful when we
have provided them in the past. Please help if you can!
If money could talk...At the end of their lives, a 100-dollar bill, a
20-dollar bill and a 1-dollar bill met at the shredder. The 100 said,
“I’ve seen the whole world. Why, I’ve been on cruises in the Caribbean, safaris
in Africa and vacations in Europe.” The 20 said, “I haven’t done quite as well, but
I’ve been to Atlantic City, Disneyland and Starbucks.” They both turned to the
one-dollar bill and asked, “How about you?” Not wanting to be outdone, the one
-dollar bill said, “I’ve seen the whole country, as well. I’ve been from church to
church to church…’. Then the 100 asked, “What’s a church?”
Pastor Paul...has been released from the hospital after his gallbladder surgery on
Monday morning, and is back at home, resting and recuperating. He has requested no
visitors at this time, but would welcome cards and notes, and of course, your prayers.
His address is 8700 Misty Hollow Lane, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
