THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
First Reading : Acts 2:14, 22-33 A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Responsorial : Lord, you will show us the path of life.
Second Reading : 1 Pt 1:17-21 A reading from the first le<er of St Peter
Gospel Acclama on: Alleluia, alleluia!
Lord Jesus, make your word plain to us:
make our hearts burn with love when you speak.
Alleluia!
Gospel: Lk 24:13-35 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus' disciples were going to a village seven
miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had
occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and deba@ng, Jesus himself drew
near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked
them, "What are you discussing as you walk along?" They stopped, looking downcast. One of
them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does
not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?" And he replied to them,
"What sort of things?" They said to him, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene,
who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief
priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we
were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third
day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they
were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported
that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of
those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him
they did not see." And he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and
enter into his glory?" Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them
what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were
going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, "Stay with us,
for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them. And it
happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it,
and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us
while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?" So they set out at once and
returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them
who were saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!" Then the two
recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the
breaking of bread.

HOME MASS - As a pastoral ini@a@ve of building community in our parish, we started to celebrate home masses in various homes in
our parish since 2015. To help organise the home masses, we divided the parish into five regions. Jerusalem (Narre Warren), Emmaus
(Narre Warren South), Nazareth (Narre Warren North), Bethlehem (Berwick) and Galilee(Hallam). Many families embraced the ini@a@ve
and we have celebrated around 20 home masses in the five regions. We have decided to con@nue this in the coming year and parishioners who are interested in hos@ng a home Mass are invited to put their details down in the Home Mass Register at the welcome
desk. Parishioners hos@ng the mass will be asked to invite up to eight other families living close by their home to a<end the celebra@on. The parish team will assist in contac@ng families close to the host family. The Masses will be held on the third Thursday of the
month at 7.30pm. The family hos@ng the mass may wish to provide a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits for their guests however we ask
that this be kept to a minimum as the main focus is to pray together.
THANK YOU - Teresa & Terry Sims would like to thank everyone that prayed for their son Mark while he was ill and also for all the calls,
cards and emails aKer his passing. May God Bless you all.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER - Next Sunday is the World Day of Prayer for Voca@ons. In his Le<er for this Day, Pope Francis asks each of us
to pray for more voca@ons to the priesthood and consecrated life. If each person who reads this offers one small prayer, it will make a
difference.
TRINITY FAMILIES - The annual parish appeal for Trinity Families takes place during May. Trinity Families, formerly knowns as Bishop’s
Family Founda@on, was established by the Diocese of Sale to provide support for families within our region. Requests for financial assistance are received from many chari@es providing services to families but unfortunately worthy programs cannot be supported because of lack of funds. Many families in our diocese are under severe stress following the closure of Hazelwood Power Sta@on and the
pending closure of the Heyfield @mber mill. Trinity Families will be working hard to ensure that help is available but to be effec@ve it
needs strong finance support from parishioners. Dona@on envelopes are available and can be used for cash or credit cards. Credit card
and cheque dona@ons can be mailed but envelopes with cash should be placed in a collec@on plate.
