Service/Literacy
Linda Cordero and Gina Rodriguez have volunteered to serve as cochairs for Service/Literacy.
The Board approved three standing service projects: Thrive, Loretta’s
Project and Wisdom Center. Members wishing to add other service projects may do so by completing a club grant application and submitting it to
the Foundation. These will be available on the club’s website
www.altrusaofgoldenvalley.org under the Foundation tab. One major service project will be held during the year. It is hoped that cutting down on
so many service projects will encourage more members to participate
without going from one project to another. A suggestion was to provide
the older foster care children with clothes, sundries and other items that
deem necessary. This project would piggyback with Altrusa of Golden
Valley ASTRA Club.
Board Meeting Day Change
The Board has indicated that Thursday would be a better day during the
week to hold its board meetings. The meeting will be held the Thursday
preceding Business Meeting at 506 Sword Court at 6:00 pm.
Membership Information
Linda Cordero has volunteered to inform membership of information about
activities involving the club via e-mail. The calling committee chair will be
informed and callers will also keep members abreast of club happenings.
MCT
Magical Christmas Trees (MCT) is on TARGET! Tickets will be ordered
and members are encouraged to contact Chair, Gina Rodriguez or CoChair, Kathy Telleria as there are openings to be filled that require member involvement. Our venue will be upstairs next to the middle escalators
where there use to be skateboarding.

Rummage Sale
Thank you to Deanna Jones and Gina Rodriguez and all the club members for a successful fundraiser! The rummage sale, held at the Area
Agency for Aging, had many club volunteers helping to make this fundraiser a BIG success!!
Loretta’s Project
Ninety-nine bags filled with books, color books, etc., and the pancake
dolls were delivered to the Pediatrics Playroom and the Emergency Room
at Marian Regional Medical Center, to be given to young children admitted to the hospital. Thus far, over 1,100 bags filled with literacy supplies
have been given to Marian Medical Center. A photo shoot was held on
August 3rd to include club members, Sister Janet, Jan Lavelle, hospital
staff and hospital personnel. The highlight was having a two year old patient receive a pancake doll. The bags were hand painted by Altrusa International of Golden Valley ASTRA Club. Thanks to Loretta for making over
a thousand handmade cloth bags, Jan Lavelle for making all the pancake
dolls (original Raggedy Ann doll), ASTRA Club of Golden Valley for hand
painting the new cloth bags.
Make a Difference Day
A suggestion by a member was to honor our local law enforcement. Make
a Difference Day is held on the last Saturday in October. This suggestion
will be presented to the membership for their input.

To celebrate the 100th year of Altrusa International, the four Altrusa Clubs
are planning a dinner dance at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge on March
11 ,2017. All District Eleven Clubs will be invited to join this special celebration!
Altrusa International Foundation of Golden
Valley, Inc.
A review of the year’s activities was given by Chair, Kathy Telleria. She
announced that the August program meeting will be a celebration of the
