Create a simple ad in Word
1. Open a new document in Word
2. Insert  Shape  Rectangle
3. Set the size of the ad:
a. Whole page 7.5” wide x 10” tall
b. Half page 7.5” wide x 5” tall
c. Quarter page 3.75” wide x 5” tall
d. Eight page 3.75” wide x 2.5” tall
4. Remove any fill by selecting “No Fill”
5. Select the text wrap as Through to allow for picture placement. If you don’t do this, the pictures and the box
will “jump around”.
6. Change the color of the outline to black or grey.
7. To insert a picture go to Insert  Picture.
8. Select your picture from the computer dialogue.
9. Make sure to change the Wrap Text to Through so the picture can be placed.
10. Use the crop tool to change the size of the picture.
11. To resize a picture without changing its proportions, pull from the corner, not the top, bottom or sides
12. Add a text box or two. Insert  Text box. Make sure to change the “Wrap Text” to through.
13. Edit the text, select your font and size from the Home tab.
14. The “Home” menu also has horizontal alignment.
15. Vertical alignment is found under the Drawing Tools.
16. If you don’t like which picture is on top, select it and click “Bring Forward” under the Picture Tools.
17. The Picture Tools tab also has an option to remove the color; the same option can be found by right clicking
on the picture.
18. After removing all color from the pictures and arranging the ad the way you like, it is time to save it. Use
“Save As” to save the file as a PDF.
