Let Brother help you become your own designer by creating an accent pillow using purchased ribbon and
built in decorative stitches.
Materials and Supplies
Brother Sewing Machine
Brother embroidery thread
Matching sewing thread
Monofilament sewing thread
5 yards Of 5/8” ribbon
2 pieces-12” x 16” printed home dec fabric
1 bag of 12 oz. polyester fiberfill

Install the clear open toe foot.
Choose a co coordinating embroidery thread for your pillow front.
Turn on the machine.
Wind a bobbin with the same embroidery thread. (thread must be the
same on both sides of the ribbon)
Install the bobbin with matching thread.
Select a decorative stitch of your choice.
Position the ribbon under the foot and sew directly in the center of the
ribbon. Continue sewing until the entire 5 yards of ribbon is completed.

On one piece of the 12” x 16” fabric, starting in the center, add 3 strips
of ribbon equal distances apart. Pin in place. This can be done vertically
as well if you desire. Figure 2
Starting in the center again, weave ribbon from the center horizontal
strip under the bottom horizontal strip, than back again to the center
strip, making a zig zag design with the decorated ribbon. Figure 3
As you weave the ribbon through all the horizontal ribbon strips, pin in
place. Figure 4
Wind another bobbin with monofilament thread.
Thread your machine with monofilament thread and replace the bobbin
with matching thread.
Using a straight stitch, sew all the intertwined ribbon to the pillow front.

Wind a bobbin with matching sewing thread.
Thread the machine with the same matching sewing thread.
Place your pillow front and back, right sides together. Pin in place to
sew.
Using a straight stitch, sew completely around the entire pillow.
Leave a 6” opening at the bottom for turning.
When you have finished sewing, clip all four corners, removing excess
fabric.
Turn right side out.
Stuff the pillow with polyester fiberfill.
Hand stitch the opening closed. Fluff the pillow.
Horizontally or vertically, decorative stitches and ribbon embellishment
make a beautiful design element for any décor.
