Make sure it is 1 filled page.
Make sure the resume is in a clear format that can be skimmed easily.
Begin with a “Professional Summary”/”Personal Profile” section. (See other side.)
o If possible, incorporate wording from the job description if relevant to you
Place all education and work experience in chronological order starting with the
most recent at the top.
o If you’re coming out of school and into the work force, list your education
first and work experience second.
o List all relevant work and education experience.
o List any volunteer experience (if you have extra space).
Bold the heading portions of your education and work experiences. Make sure the
bold formatting is consistent.
There should be 2-3 bullets for each job you have listed.
o The bullets should each describe a result that came from the work you did.
o Start each bullet with a strong, specific verb. Reference chart below.

Don’t use “I” in the bullet descriptions of what kind of work you did.
Don’t begin each bullet with the same verb.
Don’t use distracting formatting.
o Don’t use wacky fonts. San serif fonts are recommended.
o Don’t use too many different fonts. Keep the font consistent.
Don’t include an “Objective” section; include a Profile/Summary instead.
Don’t leave a lot of white space. If you have extra white space, try including a
Profile/Summary section and a Skills/Accomplishments section. See other side.
