CONGRATULATIONS SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS!
The State Science Fair was held on Saturday, May 16th at The
Ohio State University. Approximately 1,200 students from across
the state were evaluated on their scientific research and
communication skills. We are excited that St. Columban is once
again the recipient of the Harold C. Shaw Outstanding School
Award given for our excellent school performance at the State
Science Fair. We are one of only eleven (11) schools to receive this award in
Ohio and eight of them are high schools! This competition is the academic equivalent of a state athletic championship, and we
could not be more proud! Thank you to Mr. McPheron who works tirelessly to motivate the students in the classroom and
throughout the science fair process. Congratulations to the following students who received a superior rating: Anna Belesi,
Siena Dicari, Caroline France, Cecilia Gries, Jackie Groeschen, Lauren Hawkins, Elizabeth Nelson, Madeline O’Connell,
Sophie Pilon, and Nathan Zobrist. We would also like to recognize two students who received special awards. Siena Dicari
received the Geological Award ($300) and the Engineering Award ($100), while Lauren Hawkins received the Food Science
Award ($250). Thank you for your excellent representation of St. Columban School!

We meet the second Tuesday of each month (except January
and February). Generally there is a VERY short business
meeting followed by refreshments, card playing, sometimes a
speaker or just socializing. We sponsor a booth at the Festival
each year, host an Italian dinner once a year and usually
supply desserts one Friday night for the annual Fish Fry. We
take day trips, either by bus or carpooling, and occasionally a

The K of C Council at St. Columban recently celebrated its
10th Anniversary and now has more than 175 members.
Worldwide, the K of C is more than 130 years old, with more
than 1.8 million Catholic men involved in over 14,000
councils.
Nothing is expected of our members except the desire to have
fun and enjoy new and old friendships. We'd love to have you
join us. Come to one of our meetings and see for yourself! We
will also have a table at Donut Sunday on August 2nd—stop by
and say hi!
Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are
committed to making their community a better place, while
supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more tha n
camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is
supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your
own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family
life. If you are interested in learning more, contact Grand
Knight Phil Wentzel at [email protected] or 513313-0205. Check us out online at www.kofc.org.
TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND:
Helping School Families in Need
In the midst of summer and sunshine, many of us have put
school and tuition completely out of our minds! Although our
summer days may be filled with picnics in the park, bike rides
through nature trails and cannonballs in the pool, this is also
the time of year when we begin collecting school tuition for
the upcoming school year.
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT
BECOMING CATHOLIC?
Are you someone who has never been baptized?
Are you a member of a family who has been coming to
Mass for years?
Are you interested in entering the Catholic Church?
Each year there are several families who need financial
assistance with their school tuition. Over the past few years,
as we have seen many families become unemployed or
downsized at their jobs, the number of families needing
financial help has grown substantially.
If you answered yes to any of these questions, now may be
the right time for you to find out more about the RCIA.
In the Catholic tradition there is a wonderful process that is
both informational and formational for those people who
would like to learn about the teachings of the Church and
also receive the Sacraments to become Catholic. It is
called the RCIA, which stands for the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults.
As Jesus says to his disciples in the Gospel “Take it; this is
my body.” Perhaps Jesus is inviting you with these words,
to a deeper relationship with Him. If you feel as though the
Lord is calling you to come closer to Him, then maybe this
is the time for you to talk to someone about the RCIA and
the Catholic Church. Contact Scott in the Parish Office for
more information: [email protected]
St. Columban has been blessed with the generous spirit of
many parishioners who donate to our Tuition Assistance
Fund. We are truly grateful for each and every donation that
comes in for this much needed fund. Please remember that
there is always a need for additional donations to the Fund
and every dollar helps a family in need. Donations are
accepted in the collection basket at Mass and through
Online Giving as a one-time payment or a regularly
scheduled donation. Please feel free to stop by the Parish
Office with your donation at any time! Please contact Katelyn
Viscomi in the Parish Office with any questions at (513) 6830105, ext. 2106 or [email protected].
For those who are thinking about supporting this fund and
to all those who have in the past, we, and those who will
receive the assistance, thank you from the bottom of our
hearts in advance for your generosity!

Happy Anniversary!
“This was really nice! What a great way to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!”
~ Cindy and George Pillipovich
“Mass was wonderful and the breakfast was delicious! How nice of the parish to do this
just because we have been married 50 years!” ~ Joan and Gary Koebel
“Yes, Fr. Larry, I know I am a saint for being married to Harry for 60 years!” ~ Peg Walker
Each year, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati presents married couples with a special certificate if they have been married 25,
50 or 60 years. Those couples who are celebrating their 50th year of marriage were also invited to a special Mass in May at
the Cathedral with Archbishop Dennis Schnurr. St. Columban had it’s own celebration as well! These couples were invited
to a Mass on June 14, where they received a special blessing and enjoyed a delicious breakfast afterwards. This year there
are 42 couples celebrating 25 years, 5 couples celebrating their 50th and 5 celebrating their 60 Th. Congratulations to these
blessed couples! Certificates will be mailed to those not in attendance.
