Who We Are!
!
We are From Yesterday, For Tomorrow, an innovative, educational non-profit organization
dedicated to creating units of educational resources that promote emotional & social
education in secondary schools; our peaceful artillery in the fight against prejudice.!
After only a year in operation our achievements are vast; we have worked with over 1500
students worldwide, including those in the United States, providing outreach from our first
unit of resources concentrating on The Lessons of The Holocaust. Despite working primarily
in the UK, in May 2014 we conducted a school tour in the USA, appearing in High & Middle
schools in Michigan with the same purpose.!
In this short time we’ve liaised with educational bodies such as Education Scotland, Novi
Community School District, Interfaith Scotland & Facing History and Ourselves, and work in
partnership with the Krakow’s prestigious Galicia Jewish Museum. We have appeared at the
International Limmud conference twice, and were invited to be a guest speaker at the Doha
Interfaith Conference in Qatar.!
For an organisation that consists only of two individuals, we are very proud of our
achievements so far.!

What We Do!
!
Our Resources!
Created in collaboration with teachers, educational bodies and creative young people, our
resource units consist of lesson plans, original documentaries & accompanying resources.
They draw from historical events and focus on highlighting instances of prejudice, with the
intent to allow students to develop empathy & respect for individuals whose culture or
background differs from their own.!
Students taught with our resources will connect the dots between varying types of prejudice,
eventually understanding that behind every bigoted attitude lurks the same essential causes;
ignorance and a lack of empathy. Our first Unit focuses on the lessons that today’s students
can learn from the Holocaust, and benefit from the following unique features:!
Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation Number: SC044183
• Fits Common Core Needs: We have intentionally formulated our resources to take
into consideration the standards of the Common Core, with particular application for
the students to collaborate, communicate, and think critically.!
• Informal Style: Based on principles drawn from our founder’s 10 years of experience
in informal leadership education, our style uses interactive methods to engage &
relate to young people and empower them to communicate their own views in
response to what they learn.!
• Expertise in Holocaust Education: Having visited death camps, such as AuschwitzBirkenau, a combined total of ten times, our are team able to explain and discuss
their experiences of learning about the Holocaust, whilst relaying information in an
accessible, relevant manner.!
• Anti-Prejudice Ethos: Our "anti-prejudice education", as we call it, leads students to
develop an understanding of their surrounding world, empowering them to take
responsibility for their own actions & make informed choices.!
• ‘Off the Shelf’ Lessons – Easy To Use: Our comprehensive resources are designed
so any teacher, regardless of subject background, can use them confidently and with
minimal preparation.!
• ‘Story of Prejudice’: By demonstrating that all prejudice develops as part of a long
and complex process, we aim to help students visibly relate to their own place within
the ‘story’ & recognise negative behaviour they encounter in themselves & others.!
• Free To Use: We work hard to ensure our resources are available to those who need
them most by providing them free of charge. However, we do accept donations.!
• Suitable for all Types of Learners: Our interactive lesson plans take into account all
types of learners in a bid to include every student – visual, auditory, kinaesthetic &
reading writing preference learners.!
Outreach!
!
FYFT runs outreach programmes for schools and youth groups, in which we work directly
with young people to empower and inform them on an effective, peer-led basis. !
Our aim is to educate & inspire students to develop or build on their ability to participate
responsibly in social, emotional & cultural issues pertinent to their lives and as a result
positively impact their self-esteem, self-awareness & emotional well being. !
The response to our outreach has been overwhelmingly positive, with 98% of students we
have worked with both enjoying our workshops & wanting us to visit again.!
Teacher Response:!
!
‘I think the experience benefitted our second years greatly. I too enjoyed the lesson. I believe
lessons like these are important for everyone, everywhere, but particularly for Social
Subjects.’ - Doon Academy!
‘Just a short note to say thank you so much for coming to our school last term as part of a S1
Challenge. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed your documentary and were incredibly moved by

its content. The lesson plans and resources were fantastic and all staff involved would like to
pass on their thanks.’ - McLaren High School!
‘You presented the talk at their level which made it easier for pupils to understand and
respond to.’ - Dollar Academy!
Student Response: !
‘I think FYFT workshops are really important as we don’t want the mistakes of the past to be
repeated in the future.’ – Ben, S2, from McLaren High School!
‘No matter what we are, we are all connected to the holocaust in some way or another. FYFT
is truly amazing and inspiring.’ - Novi Middle School, Michigan!
‘I took away that there’s more we can do & that we have more impact than we think. We are
the future and we need to learn to be brave and nicer to others. I learned that history does
matter to us because we are part of it, and we can learn from their mistakes.’ - Novi Middle
School, Michigan!
‘One thing that I took from the discussion is to become more open minded and not to get
sucked into all the social norms and stereotypes.’ - Victoria from Novi Middle School,
Michigan!
‘!
‘I felt that FYFT explained the Holocaust differently from a teacher and it made me
understand what happened on a deeper level.’ – S2, Doon Academy!
!
We offer a three part programme as part of our outreach, but can tailor our workshops to
your school’s/students’ needs. If you have enquiries or are interested in having FYFT visit
your school/youth group then please contact our Founder & Director Ben Freeman at
[email protected].!

The Lessons Of The Holocaust!
!
Our first unit focuses on the lessons of the Holocaust & on making the daunting and complex
subject of the Holocaust relatable to your students’ everyday lives. FYFT recognises the
complexity of the Holocaust and whilst considering this, FYFT believes that there are social
and emotional lessons for current generations to learn from it, which can be of crucial use in
understanding prejudice in general. By focusing on the stories of the individual we allow
students to understand the real cost of prejudice. Our resources link these stories to other
examples of prejudice to allow young people to better understand how they relate to the
lessons from the Holocaust and the wider story of prejudice!
How Do You Benefit?!
!
• Teaching tools on the Holocaust: Our Common Core standard resources are the perfect
solution to the difficulties of teaching both the history and lessons of the Holocaust to
students who live thousands of miles away from Eastern Europe. !
Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation Number: SC044183
• Free Access To Our Wealth of Experience: The team behind FYFT has been working
with young people in informal education & dedicated educational trips for over 10 years, with
a particular focus on Holocaust education. Our experience combined with our passion is a
powerful tool in inspiring young people.!
• Saving Teachers Class Prep Time: The average teacher spends 10 - 20 hours a week
lesson planning. Our resources are fully comprehensive, with explanatory notes & no
assumption of historical knowledge - all to allow minimal prep time. !
• Improving the Emotional Literacy & Social Well-being of Students Creates
Respectful, Tolerant School Communities: It is now widely recognised that emotional &
social education are considered crucial to child development.!
• Under the UNCRC, all children and young people have the right not to be discriminated
against or treated unfairly. Despite this, young people face prejudice in schools regularly, in a
variety of ways, for example:!
- Black students are suspended or expelled at triple the rate of their white peers. (U.S.
Education Department's 2011-2012 Civil Rights Data Collection)!
- 92 percent of LGBTQ young people reported frequently hearing homophobic slurs at
school. (Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, 2004)!
These are just some instances of prejudice that have been deemed rife enough to report.
What about those who suffer in silence, and what of those who believe the prejudice they
face isn’t worthy of reporting?!
Emotional literacy & social education are deeply linked to the creation of a warm, welcoming
school community - something which every young person deserves. It doesn’t take much to
get started, so please contact us if you have any questions or interest!
