Similes and Metaphors Similes and metaphors make a comparison of two objects or things. The two objects are usually different. Similes must use like or as. Metaphors do not use these words in the comparison. Examples: My mom who is a busy bee never takes a break. Metaphor Mom is being compared to a busy bee. This means that she works a lot. Rumors spread like a wildfire. Simile Like is used in this statement to make a comparison between rumors and a wildfire. This means that rumors can get out of control and cause lots of damage.
