The project is being developed to reduce the staggering national burden of poor sleep health and sleep illness. Per the CDC insufficient sleep is associated with a number of chronic conditions: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression which all threaten our nation’s health. Sleep is one of the pillars of healthy lifestyle, directly impacting every aspect of health and well-being. Several regions of the brain go to sleep involuntarily while areas controlling vision remain active. Microsleep episodes can happen anywhere. People often wake suddenly with a sharp jerk of the head. The brain does not remember such short naps. Sleep has to last beyond a minute or two for the brain to remember it. With microsleep you are left with a feeling of not knowing if you are coming or going. It is caused by fatigue. If the episodes are not tackled they can become more frequent. Phase I includes a new two story addition which will include a 19 bed inpatient level unit. Phase II will include renovated space dedicated for sleep studies! RMC with EISC has experienced a near 42% growth in sleep studies. Referring physicians are able to gain the access needed for their patients that are experiencing sleep issues. EISC is excited to be part of this growth and looks forward to continuing to serve Manchester and its surrounding communities. l What’s Coming: New EISC Brochure The new 2014 Comprehensive Care for Sleep-Related Disorders will soon be delivered to your door. It will include health risk factors and what quality sleep can do. Take precautions such as planning for breaks; also power naps for 20 minutes can help avoid microsleep for a few hours.
