Everything you need to know about a
Mosque
A mosque is a Muslim house of worship. The typical mosque is a
flat, rectangular building with a circular dome on top. Towers,
called minarets, are part of the structure. The central organizing
feature of the mosque is its orientation toward the spiritual center
of the Muslim world, the Kaaba, which is the house of God in
Mecca.

Prayer Hall
This is a prayer hall. It is the center room of the
mosque. This is where Muslims go to pray.
Muslims remove shoes before stepping onto the
carpeted floor. This open design allows for
standing, bowing, prostrating, and kneeling
during salat. Muslims face the Qiblah Wall (the
wall that faces Mecca) when praying.

Minaret
A tall tower where the Muezzin can
call the faithful to prayer over great
distances. Like all minarets, the one
you see here is a part of a mosque.
Each minaret has a balcony. Here
Muezzen stands to call faithful to
prayer (adhan). Over time, minarets
have become more prominent in
appearance. Muslims pray five times
a day. Adhan can be heard over
great distances - up to ten blocks
with loudspeakers
