6 Oct 2015 Specimen fields that can be imported into a Symbiota data portal If the data portal is being used to displaying a “snapshot” of your data stored in your central database, the upload file MUST have a field that serves as the unique identifier for each incoming specimen record (dbpk). This field serves a link between the source record and the snapshot record within the portal. If import is a CSV file, first row must contain field names. Note that field names do not have to match the name used below, just no special characters ($#@&%) in the column names. Italic = Darwin Core fields Bold = strongly encouraged fields, though none of the fields are technically required * = for import only, merged into another field after import Name dbpk Type Text (45) occurrenceId catalogNumber otherCatalogNumbers family scientificname sciname genus specificEpithet taxonRank infraspecificEpithet scientificNameAuthorship identifiedBy dateIdentified identificationReferences identificationRemarks identificationQualifier typeStatus recordedBy recordNumber *recordNumberPrefix *recordNumberSuffix associatedCollectors eventDate year month day latestDateCollected verbatimEventDate habitat substrate occurrenceRemarks Text (255) Text (32) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (32) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (45) Text Text Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (255) Date/Time Integer (4) Integer (4) Integer (4) Date/Time Text (255) Text Text (500) Text Notes Specimen record unique identifier (primary key) of source database (record id). Barcode identifier is ideal. Can also be catalogNumber (accession number), given that it is populated for each record and truly unique. Required is collection is “snapshot” of a central database. Not needed if collection is managed directly within portal. occurrence Global Unique Identifier (GUID) Barcode or Accession number Scientific name w/ author; author is parsed from name Scientific name without author Infraspecific rank (e.g. ssp., subsp., var., f., etc) Author of scientific name cf, aff. etc Collector name Collector number Merged into recordNumber Merged into recordNumber Date collected If eventDate is null, year-month-day will be used to build eventDate End date, when date is a range (previous DwC term) General notes or remarks dataGeneralizations informationWithheld associatedTaxa associatedMedia dynamicProperties verbatimAttributes Text (250) Text (250) Text Text Text Text behavior reproductiveCondition Text (500) Text (255) cultivationStatus establishmentMeans lifeStage sex individualCount samplingProtocol samplingEffort preparations country stateProvince county municipality locality locationRemarks localitySecurity Integer Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (100) Text (200) Text (100) Text (64) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Text Text Integer localitySecurityReason decimalLatitude decimalLongitude geodeticDatum coordinateUncertaintyInMeters footprintWKT verbatimCoordinates *verbatimLatittude *verbatimLongitude *latDeg *latMin *latSec *latNS *lngDeg *lngMin *lngSec *lngEW *UtmNorthing *UtmEasting *UtmZoning *trsTownship, *trsRange, *trsSection, *trsSectionDetails georeferenceProtocol georeferenceSources georeferenceRemarks Text (100 Double (8) Double (8) Text (255 Integer Text Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Integer Double Double Text (3) INT Double Double Text (3) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (45) Text (255) Text (255) Text (255) Associated species delimited by commas or semicolons URL to jpg images, delimited by commas or semicolons Verbatim description of organism (e.g. 1.5m tall, flowers white with purple tips, etc) e.g. sterile, flw, frt, asci, etc. Use of controlled vocabulary is preferred. 0 = wild, 1 = cultivated e.g. cultivated, garden escape, etc 0=don’t hide locality details from general public, 1=hide locality, 2=hide full record For USA records, value is negative WGS84, NAD83, NAD27, etc e.g. UTM: 12N 334543 5463754; 34° 25’N 113° 43’W Generate decimal lat/long, then merged into verbCoor.
