A Message
from our Chairman
Dear Holstein Foundation Supporters and Friends,
As I was contemplating my thoughts for this, my first message as trustee chairman, I
reflected on the many thank-you notes I have received from young people across the
nation who have participated in the numerous programs made available to our youth
by the Holstein Foundation. These notes are both gracious and well-written, and are
about what Dairy Bowl, Dairy Jeopardy, and all the other programs have become in
youth development and leadership. These young people are the future of our industry,
and participation in these programs is providing them

Not to rest on past achievements, the present trustee board is committed to continually
strive to improve all aspects of the Foundation. This past year we defined some new goals
and objectives, but they will also require additional resources. Please consider the Holstein
Foundation in your charitable giving plans.
As a final word, I would like to thank my fellow trustees and the staff at Holstein Association
USA for all their support and commitment to the programs offered by the Holstein
Foundation. I especially want to recognize Joel Hastings and Rob Kolb, who are retiring
from the trustee board. Both gentlemen have made great contributions to the Foundation
and will be greatly missed. Their passion and drive for our industry are tremendous and
have supported the Holstein Foundation’s mission: educating and developing future leaders
for a vibrant dairy community. Thank you.

“The Holstein Foundation
educates and develops
future leaders
for a vibrant dairy community.”
Our new mission statement illustrates that education is the bedrock of
everything we do at the Foundation. Across the country, we serve youth and
young adults who are involved with all dairy cattle breeds, helping them
develop their potential as leaders of the dairy industry.
The Young Dairy Leaders Institute, now in its twenty-second year, is the
cornerstone of our educational outreach. The Holstein Foundation runs other
programs that further our mission for youth ages 9 through 21, including:
• Dairy Bowl: Teams of four compete to answer
questions related to the dairy industry
• Dairy Jeopardy: Youth compete to answer questions related to the dairy
industry, in a format based on the popular TV game show,
• Dairy Knowledge exam: a 25-question written quiz
about the dairy industry
• Educational workbooks
• Support and ribbons
for youth participating
in local dairy shows
