About Your Spelling Words
Each of this week's spelling words has one of the
following letter combinations: ie, ei, ai, ia
The letters ie usually make the long-e vowel sound,
as in thief and brief.
The letters ei sometimes make the long-a sound, as
in weigh. Other times ei will make a long-e sound,
as in receive.
The letters ai, usually make the long-i vowel sound,
as in hair and trail. An exception is the word said,
where the letters make a short-e sound.
Only two words in your spelling list have the ia letter
combination. Can you find it? What sound(s) do
the letters ia make in these words?
