SOM Project - Mrs. Rethman`s Classes

 6th Grade Project Scientist of the Month Each month, a new scientist will be presented, including his or her picture, birth date, and death date. Each student will need to research using books or the internet to find 3 interesting facts about that scientist. They must try not to repeat any facts that other students have turned in and posted. Facts must NOT exceed 1 printed page. (Can use any READABLE font size, color, or style.) Facts must also include the source where they were found. Students will read their facts out loud to the class when they turn them in. See example 3. • Newton’s father died three months before he was born and his mother remarried and left him to be raised by his grandparents. • Newton became entangled in an argument with Gottfried Leibniz over who invented Calculus first. To this day, they are both given the credit. • He was a professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge. staring at the sun for a long time. He had to sit in a dark room for
2 weeks before his vision became normal again.
§ Due to the bubonic plague, Newton had to leave school and
return home where an apple hit him on the head and he started to
consider gravity.
§ Newton was very withdrawn and did not have many friends. Some
of the friends he did have, he became angry with and didn’t speak
to again.

This is called Alchemy.
„ While he wasn’t successful, this practice was the early study of
chemistry.
„ To guard against others stealing his work or making fun of him,
Newton would write some of his works in code.
