Grande Prairie is in the heart of Peace Country in Northern Alberta and is part of a cultural corridor that
embraces the performing and creative arts, culture and heritage.
Attractions
The Prairie Art Gallery, a “category A” art gallery, is one of only seven in the province of Alberta, hosting
extraordinary shows.
The annual downtown street performers festival generates considerable attention the third week in July
with large crowds of spectators jockeying for space to view the jugglers, mime artists, magicians and
comedians. Music festivals and concerts abound with Grande Prairie being a central hub destination.
Every Wednesday from June through August the great Canadian Bison BBQ occurs outdoors and is
topped with warm northern hospitality. People come from miles away to enjoy this northern treat; a great
experience for visitors from around the world.
The Farmers’ Market sells locally produced fresh vegetables, meats, pastries, jam, preserves and
handicrafts. A great treat while in Grande Prairie and some to take home.
Rodeos and chuck wagon racing area popular shows with rip roaring excitement in May and July.
The area offers golf courses and 18 kilometers of hiking trails, bird and wildlife watching. There is a
waterfowl refuge where visitors can catch a glimpse of a trumpeter swans and cygnets.
From October to March, visitors can enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and the
ever popular snowmobiling experience. Sightings of wildlife, such as bear, elk, deer, sheep and moose are
not uncommon.
If your group is spending time in Grande Prairie or on its way onto the Alaska Highway, spending a few
