City Collection of Electronics Trash Ends July 1, 2011
Dubuque customers will no longer be allowed to dispose
of electronic items in their trash after July 1. Green
stickers on electronic items will also be unacceptable
after July 1. This is true even if the back of older green
sticker sheets state that a green sticker can be used for
such items. Electronics will also be unacceptable in
scheduled Large Item Collections after July 1st. The
City does not offer a special collection fee option for
electronics in the Large Item Program like it does for
appliances. Citizens must arrange their own recycling of
these items through the DMASWA or area electronics
retailers and some recycling/reuse services.
Effective July 1, the
burying of electronics
will not be allowed at
the Dubuque Metro
Landfill. As of that date,
all unwanted electronics
accepted by the DMASWA
must be recycled.
A onetime amnesty for recycling electronics
will be offered from June 11- 25 at the
Landfill. Electronics can be dropped off at no
charge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on these dates,
except Sundays.
Electronics are defined as anything with a
circuit board and/or cathode ray tube (CRT
or “picture tube”). Examples include:
computer monitors and CPUs, cell phones,
televisions, printers, DVD players and VCRs. For more
information, contact DMASWA Administrator Chuck
Goddard at 563-589-4250 or visit www.dmaswa.org.
