Background
Payroll tax withholding by the State of Arizona is based on a percentage of Federal tax
withheld. Arizona recently changed the withholding rates from whole numbers (10%, 20%,
etc.) to decimal percentages (18.2%, 21.3%, etc.). This necessitated a change in Payroll tax
calculations and the way employees with AZ withholding are set up in Employee F/M. Prior
to this change, the number of personal exemptions in the state withholding information in
the Employee File corresponded to the withholding percentage. Since this field does not
permit decimal numbers, the system was changed to look up the withholding percentage
that corresponds to the number entered in the Personal Exemptions field.
Note:
These percentages may change in the future, or additional withholding levels may be added
to the list. Please consult the Tax Notes on SHAKER’s web site for the latest information
(http://www.shakercomputer.com/support/supportfaq/taxnotes.html).
