Simon Browne started reading S & A aged 7. His favourite, Winter
Holiday, cost him the challenging amount of 13/6 pocket money in
1962. He learnt to sail on holiday at Broadstairs and has been lucky
enough to sail to Iceland and the North Cape of Norway. He has a
website dedicated to Fridtjof Nansen’s literary output and influence
and is in the frenetic process of self-publication of a book on that
subject.
Julian Lovelock has recently retired as Pro Vice-Chancellor at the
University of Buckingham, where he lectured in English Literature. He
is using some of his new-found time to write Swallows and Amazons
and Coots: A Reading of Arthur Ransome. He is a member of TARS’s
Literary & Resources Committee and the new editor of Mixed Moss.
Margaret Ratcliffe has been a very active TARS member for over
20 years; regularly contributing to – everything – and is currently
multi-tasking as an author, editor and saleslady with Amazon
Publications.
Dr Sarah Spooner has an MA from Newcastle University and a PhD
from the University of Reading entitled, “’Knowing its Place?’:
Language and Landscape in Arthur Ransome”. She has previously
taught at the University of Reading and currently works in publishing.
Paul Crisp - long term contributor to Amazon Publications including
Fair Cops and Glowworms and Drawn at a Venture. A life-long reader
of P.G.Wodehouse, he would join the Drones Club tomorrow if asked.
Tim Bowler has written over twenty books for teenagers and won
fifteen awards, including the prestigious Carnegie Medal for River
Boy. He has been described by the Sunday Telegraph as “the master
of the psychological thriller” and by the Independent as “one of the
truly individual voices in British teenage fiction”. His books have sold
over a million copies worldwide.
