Sewing Instructions Note: Use a 1⁄4” (.64cm) seam allowance throughout. Sew all pieces with right sides together and raw edges even using matching thread. Full Block Assembly 1. Place a Fabric Y triangle over a Fabric A triangle. Sew the triangles together along the right side edge. Repeat with a second set of Fabrics Y and A triangles in. Note: It is important that all triangles are sewn together along the same seam edge. Press toward Fabric A. Sew a 3 1⁄2” x 9 1⁄2” (8.89cm x 24.13cm) Fabric A strip to the pieced block top edge and another one to the bottom edge. Press seam allowances toward the long strips. (Fig. 4) Fig. 4 Half Block Assembly 5. Sew a Fabric A triangle to a Fabric Y triangle as in step 1. 6. Sew a 3 1⁄2” (8.89cm) Fabric A square to the left side of the pieced triangle. Press seam allowances toward the square. 7. Sew a 3 1⁄2” x 9 1⁄2” (8.89cm x 24.13cm) Fabric A strip to the top of the pieced block, lining up the short edge of the rectangle with the left side edge of the Fabric A square. Sew a Fabric A 3 1⁄2” (8.89cm) square to the lower left edge of the block. Press seam allowances toward the added pieces. Following the table below and the construction steps above, make the required number of full and half blocks in each fabric. Lay out the quilt blocks in random order on-point, noting the orientation of the hourglass blocks as shown in the Quilt Layout diagram, placing the Fabric H, J, K, and L half-square triangles in the corners. 10. Sew a 11⁄2” x 9 1⁄2” (2.54cm x 24.13cm) Fabric Y sashing strip between each block in each diagonal row. Press seam allowances toward the sashing. 11. Sew the 1” x WOF (2.54cm x WOF) Fabric Y sashing strips together end to end and cut two each of the following lengths: 9 1⁄2” (24.13cm), 31 1⁄2” (80cm), 51 1⁄2” (130.81cm), 71 1⁄2” (181.61cm), 91 1⁄2” (232.41cm), 111 1⁄2” (383.21cm), and 131 1⁄2” (334cm); sew the appropriately sized strip between the adjacent block rows, aligning adjacent block seams. Press seam allowances toward the sashing. 12. Trim and square the quilt edges. Finishing the quilt FS960TG 13. Sew the Backing pieces together along the long edges. Press seams open. Layer the backing right side down, batting, and quilt top right side up. Baste the layers together using spray or pins. Quilt as desired. 14. Trim the excess batting and backing to match the quilt top edge. 15. Sew Fabric J binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press. Sew the binding to the quilt top, raw edges together. Turn and fold the binding to the back and hand-stitch in place.
