Archive Collection Policy

Archive Collection Policy
The Bedford Archive holds a collection that encompasses the whole of school life through the ages.
This includes:







administrative records
photographs
memorabilia
private papers
rare books
artwork
a comprehensive stock of Ousel volumes
In order to preserve this broad sweep, the official collection policy is similarly wide. In terms of physical
material, no donation is ever refused. Even if a permanent home cannot be found within the archive,
many items may be of use somewhere else within the school. A particular area for expansion would
be the acquisition of personal papers relating to notable OBs.
With the digitisation of the Ousel, the archive enters a new phase in its development. Further
digitisation of the collection is a long term goal. Similarly, the shift to electronic record keeping means
that the creation of an “[email protected]” email address – to which selected records
can be sent- will be an essential tool in future. Staff, boys and OBs should be encouraged to use this
facility, and undoubtedly with the Ousel online, a wider interest in the archive will hopefully give rise
to the habit of cc-ing various documents.
