OCTOBER/NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER ISSUE No: 38 The GINS Website: www.ginsgolf.com Course Rep’s Phone Numbers Captain’s Letter I kick off this month with thanks to OIB for their sponsorship, Kate Mason for officially representing GINS at Richard Collick Snr Funeral and Jill Parker for bringing the diary Covers from the UK, hopefully that’s all she has brought and the weather will remain Spanish for a few more weeks. Debate is as healthy as ever at the committee meetings, various proposals banded about didn't get the time of day to go to the EGM, that is not the vehicle for such issues. The EGM is solely to decide on the matter of the joining fee, and to that end I would like to say it does really effect all members since the society is reliant on continuing to attract new membership. (Spanish Federation Members in particular at the meeting please) Our Society is again happy to announce the Anoreta CAJAMAR 3 day championship starts at Annie Colbridge LOS MORISCOS-Friday 14th November 634881254 AÑORETA - Monday 17th November Available all reasonable hours BAVIERA - Tuesday 25th November a meal and prize presentation will follow The winners will be those who achieve the highest accumulated stableford scores from Baviera Roy Boutel the 3 courses 634881265 Please add your name to the list at the Available all reasonable hours Please text after 6pm (Alt. Sincere thanks to those who have already made donations in the way of prizes. Peter Jenkins should have stimulated a re-write of the GINS history section, Peter does not have access to the website, so he was a little disappointed that he was not mentioned in an article in the local rag recently, the article was drawn from our own web page, so that needs a little correcting, good old Rob!! By the time you read this Newsletter, Ellen Hughes will have taken over the Anoreta phone and will be arranging the games for a couple of weeks, thus the effectiveness of a course / rep’s specific phone number is proven. The GINS diary will be available from the 17th November, so don't rush out to buy one elsewhere! Also, The Cajamar three course Club Championship is November, at Anoreta an arrangement has been made for a 'Two + Buggy Deal' to keep costs lower, so hopefully we shall see many of you at the three courses this year, and all of you at your 'usual' course. Until then continue to enjoy the benefits of GINS, on and off the course. Steve Colbridge CAJAMAR event Los Moriscos Elaine & Tony Griffths 634734352 Thursdays only 9-11am GINS raise £2,120 during fund raising events last year! “It really makes a difference” says Audrey Williams of Cystic Fibrosis Trust in her letter to Bridget Lloyd-Edwards in response to receiving our GINS cheque. “As you know, our team of 80 dedicated scientists working in the UK CF Gene Therapy Consortium is the largest group of dedicated CF Gene Therapy researchers in the world. These scientists have now developed a gene therapy product to correct the faulty gene that causes CF and our clinical trials have now started with the pilot Study (single dose trial). This is research that hasn’t been attempted on this scale anywhere in the world and has the potential to prevent 90% of deaths in CF and it is only with the help of people like the GINS that we are able to fund this vital work.” IF YOU WANT TO PLAY AT LOS MORISCOS ON A FRIDAY, YOU MUST PUT YOUR NAME DOWN ON THE FRIDAY PREVIOUS AT LOS MORISCOS, OR YOU CAN RING THE REPRESENTATIVES AT ANY REASONABLE TIME BEFORE WEDNESDAY. There is no other alternative! WHEN YOU WANT TO KNOW YOUR ALLOCATED TIME FOR A FRIDAY THEN PLEASE (if possible) RING 634734352 BETWEEN 9.00 and 11.00 ON THURSDAY MORNING. The completed time sheet will be displayed at Axarquia Golf in Algarrobo and Dream Properties in Nerja on Wednesdays. It was in Nerja that he to Spain was in met the lovely Anamarie, who became 1950. At that time his wife. A little time later they a journey to Seville approached me, having heard that I on a charabang was possibly going to sell the bar, and took many hours a deal was struck! Subsequently Alan with two machine moved the bar from downstairs to toting Guardia Civil officers upstairs, hence the new name “The onboard to protect against bandits, Upstairs Downstairs bar.” of which there were many in the Alan & I drank together & played golf mountains, a hang over from the together and then one day we had the Spanish Civil War. I vowed to novel idea of forming a “little golf return one day! society.” He had virtually formed it Fast forward to 1960….After a three and the name G.I.N.S. had been day car journey from Perpignan I created when I had to go back to arrived in Los Boliches for a holiday England for a few days & we agreed with friends. I did not leave for four to allocate me membership number years, my lady friend & I opened a bar 13, my lucky number. The we called “El Hombre Alto” (The Tall membership fee was then 500 Man). I mention this because the name pesetas! So all those years ago, I comes up again in the future. At that became one of the founding members. time there was a three hole “golf What fun we had drinking & playing course” at Malaga Airport, about where golf (there was no breathaliser in the car parks are now. A game of golf those days!) and we had some at the Parador course, nine holes at splendid Captains, Derek Turner that time, cost the princely sum of 11 Davies, Sandy Shingler, John pesetas! Caddies, who were all young “Devils,” were extra. Their average age was 14 and they hit a 2 iron as far as we did a driver! Fast forward again….After many varied jobs & experiences travelling the world, I arrived here in Nerja in 1980 where I have been ever since. At that time there were not many golfers living or visiting Nerja, Those of us who did play used the Capistrano Tennis Club as our Wilkinson, Glen Cowie, Bob Mountain, Club House and we played under the Brian Ladd, Tony Godfrey, Albert name of the “Groupo.” Craddock, and of course Alan himself Mostly we played the Parador and (bottom left in pic) with his wooden Guadelhorce, both in Malaga, with putter. We must also remember the sallies to Los Moriscos which was a little groups (all GINS members) who nine hole course. During this time I also enjoyed their golf, the Dirty had opened my bar, which was again Dozen, Club Twenty & The Tags, What named “El Hombre Alto” at No.3 Calle wonderful memories! Animas, Nerja. I gave them to your mother and told her to put them on. When she did, they were enormous on her and she said to me that she couldn't possibly wear them, as they were too large. I told her, of course they're too big. I wear the trousers in this family and I always will. Ever since that day, we have never had a single problem.' Jack took his father's advice and as soon as he got Jill alone after the wedding, he did the same thing; took off his trousers, gave them to Jill and told her to put them on. Jill said that the trousers were too big and she couldn't possibly wear them. 'Exactly,' replied Jack. 'I wear the trousers in this relationship and I always will. I don't want you to forget that.' Jill paused and removed her knickers and gave them to Jack. 'Try these on,' she said . So he tried them on but they were too small. 'I can't possibly get Into your knickers,' said Jack. 'Exactly,' replied Jill. 'And if you don't change your ******* attitude, you never will.' A 3-year-old boy examined his testicles while taking a bath. 'Mum', he asked, 'Are these my brains?' 'Not yet,' she replied. SINGLE MARRIED DIVORCED Page 3 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER ISSUE No: 38 The GINS Website: www.ginsgolf.com STOP PRESS Places still available-join US!
