International fashion designer Kirat Anand is collaborating with conservation non-‐profit to create limited edition hand embroidered tunics benefitting rainforest communities (AUSTIN, TEXAS-‐ December 2, 2015) Kirat S. Anand’s namesake label, KAS New York, is teaming up with Rainforest Partnership (RP) to launch their first charity line together. When the environmentally conscious designer met our Executive Director, Niyanta Spelman, during Climate Week NYC in September of this year, he emphasized his interest in being involved with our efforts of partnering directly with rainforest communities to educate them and provide them with sustainable alternatives to deforestation. “The environment and the care for it have always been close to me and the brand, KAS New York. All the processes we use in our production facility are environment friendly, and we have always noted that on our care labels, “made with care for the environment”. So when I met Niyanta and her team, it was a no brainer and it gave me a great excuse to design a few exclusive tunics [for them] that had the spirit and feel of the rainforest.” -‐Kirat S. Anand
The line of organic linen & cotton tunics will launch at United Nations Climate Conference, COP21, in Paris 2015. The exclusive designs are a limited edition collection that are only available while supplies last. They are featured in tones of green & natural, with hand embroidered patterns inspired by the flora & fauna of rainforest life. Each has the RP’s green butterfly logo. Coincidentally, one of Kirat’s first Spring collections also featured organic tunics with colorful butterflies, which was picked up by Bloomingdale’s. The limited edition tunics are available online at kasnewyork.com, priced at $88 and 100% of proceeds go to Rainforest Partnership. ###
About Rainforest Partnership: Rainforest Partnership works with forest communities to help them make an income that allows them to protect their forests. They do this by working with communities to develop and market products made out of raw materials found only in the rainforest or by providing services that are unique to the rainforest. By developing the market for these products, locally, elsewhere in Latin America, and in the U.S., sales of these goods and services give residents a financial stake in protecting their forests.
