Well our first week of term has been very busy as usual, but first I want to share something from last
term with you that happened after I had written my highlights. Pupils in Y1 and Y2 brought the houses
that they had made out into the playground on Friday 12th and Mr Surry set fire to them! This meant that
we could see what it was like in Pudding Lane when the Great Fire of London started. The pupils were
very excited and some started to sing „London‟s Burning‟. The looks on the pupils‟ faces were priceless,
yet no-one was upset at their house burning down!
Y1 have been using „Talk for Writing‟ which involves drawing pictures and doing actions to help build
their story telling skills. This in turn improves their ability to write stories. I was very impressed with
how they could use a sequence of pictures and symbols to accurately tell the story of The Magic Bed. As
Arthur told me yesterday, they have “innovated” the story since!
I have seen some super robots coming into school this week. Some people from Crystal Class have been
very busy over the half term holiday! Thank you for taking the time with your children to do this.
Logic Club started this week for some Y5 pupils. Mrs Stoneham and Mrs Down were very impressed
with the level of concentration from the pupils. Well done!
Mrs Nunes would like to thank those parents and members of staff who helped her on Tuesday.
We are up to 22 responses on ParentView. There will be a couple of laptops available for you to use at
Parents‟ evenings to log on and give your views. https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk
Arabella Paul, who comes each year to work with Y5 and Y6, started this week looking at stories from

the Bible. She will be working over the next few weeks with Emerald and Amethyst classes and she has
emailed Miss Walledge to say what a privilege it was to meet the pupils yesterday.
I was asked to come and see Y4‟s writing yesterday by Miss Machin. I was SO impressed! The pupils
have made so much progress and are using wonderful vocabulary in their work! Well done!
Jimmy, Jessica, Theo and Claudia spent the day at Horton Kirby Primary School on Tuesday at an „Able
Mathematician‟ workshop. They were given lots of tricky challenges to do that, according to Jimmy,
“really made you think!”
Pupils in Sapphire Class have had a very busy half term! I have enjoyed looking at their sharing books
and seeing all of the interesting things they have done. Some children have been to the farm, to the
cinema and to Nottingham! Other highlights have included getting a new dog, seeing a new baby and
going to Leeds Castle.
Kent Highways have erected a new sign about not parking on the zig-zags outside school. Stopping on
these markings can result in a £70 fine. Can I also remind you NOT to park on the pavement outside
the Portobello Parade shops as I have received a complaint from one of the shops because a parent was
blocking the entrance.

Monday‟s PTA meeting has been moved to take place immediately after the Mothers‟ Day present sale
on Friday.
As it is St David‟s Day on Tuesday, pupils may wear their Beavers, Brownies or Cubs uniforms to
school.
Could those pupils who attend Logic Club please bring a packed lunch on Tuesday so that we can
maximise the time available.
Parent consultation meetings take place next Wednesday and Thursday. Please return your slip by
Monday so that we can organise times and co-ordinate sibling appointments.
Remember it is World Book Day on Thursday, so can pupils come dressed in pyjamas or onesies as we
are celebrating bedtime reading. They can wear slippers inside but will need shoes to wear outside.
If you have any old newspapers, suitable for classroom use, could you please send them into school.
ALL DINNER MONEY MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE PLEASE!
On Friday morning, the PTA are holding a present sale for Mothers‟ Day. A separate flier will be sent
out with more details next week.
Have a lovely weekend!
