HALOGEN
TESTING SERVICE
The halogens include Fluorine (F), Chlorine (Cl), Bromine (Br), Iodine (I)
and Astatine (At) which exists in the VIIA clan of Chem-Physics Periodic
table.
》Fluorine (F) : Lemon yellow gas (F2), highly-corrosive, violent oxidizer,
easy to make a chemical combination with other lements,
and results from a large number of thermal energy.
》Chlorine (Cl) : Green gas, violent oxidizer, easy to excite the human
respiratory tract mucous membrane, may result in death
when under critical condition.
》Bromine (Br) : Brown liquid, results in serious harm when the skin has
contacted with it.
》Iodine (I)
: Purple solid, the necessary trace elements within the
organism.
》Astatine (At) : Solid, the artificial radioactive element.
Whereas after the halogen compounds included electronic waste and
plastics products burnt, may easy to result from so-called century poison－
Dioxin-like Compounds, bring about the harm to health via the
accumulation of organism. The international companies such as Apple,
DELL etc. announced the Halogen-Free Standards in the end of 2006,
clearly defined the Halogen-Free (Cl, Br) requirements within the products.
Apple’s restrictions on halogens are based on the IEC 61249-2-21:2003
standard. Per the IEC standard, restrictions on halogens apply only to
Chlorine (Cl), Bromine (Br), and their compounds. No other halogen
(Fluorine, Iodine, Astatine) is regulated. The comparison table for
