DEDICATED
& DEVOTED
dedicate: to devote (time, effort, or oneself) to a
particular task or purpose
devote: give all or a large part of one’s time or
resources to (a person, activity or cause)
DEVOTING THINGS FOR SACRED USE
2 Chronicles 2:4 / 7:1-6 / 1 Chronicles 28:11-12 / Daniel 5:22-31 **Daniel 3
>< Chronicles - The Temple was built and given, or
dedicated, to God. The glory of the Lord filled the
Temple. Along with the dedication was the offering of
sacrifices and joyful praise. All the ‘spaces’ of the Temple
and all that filled the spaces were dedicated to God.
>< Daniel - Belshazzar, king of Babylon, ordered the
drinking cups from the Temple of the Lord to be used for
his own purposes of entertainment and bringing honour
to his gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone.
What tragedy came over Belshazzar?
DEDICATING PERSONS TO THE LORD
Exodus 22:29-30 / 1 Samuel 1:11, 27-28 / Leviticus 12:1-8
Luke 2:21-40
>< Exodus - God is the Great Provider. Whatever God
gives us as gain we should give back, without delay, the
first of that gain for His purposes. The firstborn males
were to be given to the Lord on their eighth day of life.
>< 1 Samuel - Hannah was an aging woman who had no
children. She prayed to the Lord to take away her shame
and to give her a child. She vowed to give the boy back
to the Lord for His service. **Read more about Samuel in 1 Samuel and the Nazarites in
Numbers 6:1-21.
>< Leviticus - On which day was a boy to be
circumcised? The __th day. How many days before the
woman is clean from her loss of blood from the birth of
a male child? _____ days.
>< Luke - At 8 days old the baby was given the name
Jesus and was circumcised. He was presented in the
Temple at 40 days old. The child grew and became
strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God
was on him. **Read more about Jesus as a boy Luke 2:41-52
LIVING A LIFE SET APART FOR GOD
Leviticus 27:28-34 / Psalm 1:1-6 / Romans 12:1-2 / 1 Peter 1:13-16 / Hebrews 10:26-31
>< Leviticus - Anything that a person owns and devotes
to the Lord is most H_____ to the Lord.
>< Psalm - Are you making a life in the way of Jesus? Do
you love the Lord’s teachings? Do you meditate on them
day and night? The Lord takes care of His people, but the
wicked will be destroyed.
>< Romans - Is your life an offering that is pleasing to the
Lord? Are you set apart from the ways of the world?
>< 1 Peter - BE HOLY IN ALL YOU DO! Why? Because
God is Holy. “Do not conform to the evil desires you
had when you lived in ignorance.”
>< Hebrews - Ask yourself this: “Am I an enemy of God?”
Have you treated as an unholy thing the blood of the
covenant that sanctified you? Do you insult the Spirit of
grace? Do you deliberately keep on sinning after having
received the knowledge of truth?
GOD’S KINGDOM PURPOSES
John 3:16-17 / Psalm 23 / Deuteronomy 6:4-9
>< John - God did not send His Son into the world to
C_________ the world, but to S_____ the world
through Him.
>< Psalm - Many recite the Shepherd’s Psalm in times of
need as some sort of soothing remedy. Too often it is
read and recited with a consumerist mindset. (What do I get from God?…What is God doing for me?…If I
memorize this psalm and recite it then God better not turn
His back on me…I am a good Christian so what can I
squeeze out of God?)
What if we read this passage with the lens of the
Shepherd’s purpose? This is loaded with a revelation of
God’s purposes! It has very little to do with what we do
and everything to do with what God does. We just need
to follow Him in faith that His purposes are best!
>< Deuteronomy - God has purposed that His Word is
shared and taught diligently from generation to
generation. Love God. Be devoted to Him with all that
you have and with all that you are!
AXCESS::LAB
What is it? LAB is a weekly
gathering of two or three people
who are committed to share their
spiritual journey with other
believers that want to
make a life in the way of Jesus.
!
What happens in LAB?
—share what God is revealing in
our own personal Bible study
—pray together and for each other
throughout the week using PRAPR:
Praise Reports and Prayer Requests
—build relationships of trust and
confidence with other believers
—conduct “experiments in truth” in
order to build up our faith
!
How does a LAB get started?
—pray to God for wisdom and
discernment to help you identify
1 or 2 people that are ready
commit to journey with you
—connect with your LAB partner
—set a date and time to meet for
30mins to 1hour each week
—make agreements with your LAB
partner(s) to create an atmosphere
of grace, mutual trust and faith
!
REMEMBER: aXcess::LAB is not a Bible
study. Guard against exclusivity by
connecting with other LABs. Keep the
confidence of your LAB partner(s). Do not
judge…pray instead.
