The year was 1991 and optimism was in the air. Habitat Charlotte was just an eight-year-old affiliate when a group of women volunteers decided to do something that had not been done before—build a house by themselves. They believed they could, so they did. Since then, their idea, their confidence and their achievement has spread across 50 states and 30 countries, resulting in upwards of 2,400 Habitat houses built by all-women crews. The rest is herstory.
