in
In November, A-Level Maths students sat the UKMT Senior
Mathematics Challenge. They had 90 minutes to answer 25
multiple choice questions which tested a wide range of
mathematical concepts.
College VI students received an impressive
32 certificates recognising their achievement
in the competition. Mayuren Naidoo
achieved an incredible score and has been
invited to compete in the next stage. Only
2000 students out of 150,000 across the
country manage to get to this level.
Well done, Mayuren!

Speak Out Challenge!
Well done to all the Year 10 students who took part in in the
Speak Out workshops last week. Elaine Powell, the
Regional Coordinator from Speaker's Trust, was impressed
with the enthusiasm, resilience and confidence that students
demonstrated on both days, which resulted in some very
moving speeches. The winners, who will go through to
the next round and speak in front of Year 10 in January,
are:
Niamh Yehezkel
Emma Kladitis
Anish Mavadia
Darcy Gorman
Rosalie Mountain Andre Wallace
George Phillips
Eloise Cleminson
Debating Matters
On Wednesday, the College VI Debating
Society triumphed in the Croydon
Qualifying round against Dunraven
School.
Mariella Deadman and Katrina Parris spoke very passionately
against the development of fracking in the UK and were
commended by the judges on their personal response and use
of wit. Neffie Wright and Imran Azizuddin then spoke in favour
of the motion ‘This House believes that artistic expression
should never be censored’. After a somewhat heated round of
judges' questions the competition was awarded to Riddlesdown.
Our team now goes through to compete at the South London
Regional Final in the spring.
