How to do it:
(Click on the images for a closer look.)
1.
Print the corn pattern directly onto a sheet of cardstock, if
available, and cut out. Otherwise, trace around the pattern on a
piece of heavy paper or poster board and cut out.
2.
Cut three 15” pieces of twisted raffia paper. Untwist the pieces
and cut one end into a point. These are the husks.
3.
Cut or tear colored tissue paper into 3” to 4” squares. You will
need about 80 pieces in an assortment of colors. The larger the
pieces, the larger the "kernels" will be and the fewer needed to
complete the project.
4.
Loosely roll the pieces of tissue paper into balls. They don't
need to be too compact.
5.
Cover a couple of inches of the corn pattern with glue and
begin attaching the kernels. Keep going until the entire ear is
covered.
6.
Take several strands of shredded raffia and tape them to the
back of the ear. This is the corn silk.
7.
Glue the ear to one of the husks, positioning it about 4” from the
pointed end.
8.
Create a V shape with the other two husks and glue them to the
back of the first husk, near the bottom.
9.
Gather the bottoms of the husks together and tie with a piece of
shredded raffia. Bend the husks away from the ear so that the
kernels show.
10.
Tape a piece of shredded raffia to the back for a hanger.
Because it is so light, you can also hang it using double-sided
tape.
