The Holy Eucharist - Bishop Wordsworth`s School

The Holy Eucharist
for Bishop Wordsworth’s School
Tuesday 15 March 2016
at 9.00 am
Welcome to our annual School Eucharist. It is an opportunity for us to
meet as a school community within the context of the communion
service and its reminder of the pattern of God’s transforming love for the
world.
A prayer for use before the service:
Father of all,
we give you thanks and praise,
that when we were still far off,
you met us in your Son and brought us home.
Dying and living, he declared your love,
gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.
May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life;
we who drink his cup bring life to others;
we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world.
Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,
so we and all your children shall be free,
and the whole earth live to praise your name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Music before the service begins:

J S BACH
Played by Arthur Pallecaros, BWS Organ Scholar, who also plays the

service.
The Gathering
Please stand for the hymn, during which the choir and clergy move in
procession through the nave to the altar at the spire crossing.
Guide me, O thou great Redeemer,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand:
bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through:
strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death, and hell’s destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side:
songs of praises
I will ever give to thee.

We ask your mercy and forgiveness.
All

We ask your mercy and forgiveness.

We have lived with dishonesty
and failed to strive for justice:
We ask your mercy and forgiveness.

The Preparation of the Table
Taking of the Bread and Wine
The OFFERTORY HYMN is sung during which bread and wine are
brought to the altar and placed upon it.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.
Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear.
In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.
Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;
he burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned.
How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light!
Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;
Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place,
he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace.
No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him;
be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

We offer thanks for all the gifts God has given us.
President Blessed be God,
who feeds the hungry,
who raises the poor,
who fills our praise.
All
Blessed be God for ever.
Please remain standing.
The Eucharistic Prayer
President The Lord be with you
All
and also with you.
All
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
All
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.
It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation;
in your love you made us for yourself.
When we turned away
you did not reject us,
but came to meet us in your Son.
All
You embraced us as your children
and welcomed us to sit and eat with you.
In Christ you shared our life
that we might live in him and he in us.
All
He opened his arms of love upon the cross
and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.
On the night he was betrayed,
at supper with his friends
he took bread, and gave you thanks;
he broke it and gave it to them, saying:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.
All
Father, we do this in remembrance of him:
his body is the bread of life.
At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine,
he gave you thanks, and said:
Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins;
do this in remembrance of me.
All
Father, we do this in remembrance of him:
his blood is shed for all.
As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory,
send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine
may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son.
All
As we eat and drink these holy gifts
make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.
With your whole Church throughout the world
we offer you this sacrifice of praise
and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven:
The choir sings the Sanctus and Benedictus.
Holy, holy, holy Lord
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Please sit.
The Lord’s Prayer
President Jesus taught us to call God our Father,
so in faith and trust we pray:
All
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
We share in God’s gifts and in the love which nourishes us and sustains
us.
President We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ.
All
Though we are many, we are one body,
because we all share in one bread.
President Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our
Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you,
and his blood which he shed for you.
Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you,
and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.
Please sit until you are directed to come forward for communion or a
blessing.
The President and other ministers receive communion.
All baptized members of Christian churches, of whatever tradition or
denomination, are welcome to receive Holy Communion. As you leave
your seat, the prefects will direct you to the nearest communion point.
Alternatively, you are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing; if
you keep your hands at your side and bow your head, you will receive a
blessing from a priest.
One of the ministers delivers bread to each communicant,
saying:
The body of Christ.
One of the ministers then delivers the cup to each
communicant, saying:
The blood of Christ.
The communicant replies each time: Amen.
Please intinct (dip) the wafer in the chalice, and then consume.
During communion the choir sings AGNUS DEI.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world,
grant us peace.

All
Almighty God,
who called your servant John Wordsworth
to found this school
to the glory of your Son Jesus Christ,
grant that it may be a place of faith and learning,
so that, following Christ in the way of the Cross,
we may dedicate ourselves
to the service of men and women everywhere
all the days of our lives.
Amen.
Please stand for the Hymn:
I danced in the morning when the world was begun.
I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,
I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth;
at Bethlehem I had my birth.
Dance, then, wherever you may be;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,
and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.
I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame;
the holy people said it was shame.
They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high;
and left me there on the cross to die.
I danced on a Friday when the world turned black —
it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back.
They buried my body and they thought I’d gone;
but I am the dance and the dance goes on.
They cut me down and I leap up high;
I am the life that will never, never die;
I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me —
I am the Lord of the Dance said he.
