North America is the only continent that has every kind of climate. Mount McKinley, in Alaska, is the tallest point on the continent. U.S.A has 9 time zones: Hawaii Time Zone, Alaska Time Zone, Pacific Time Zone, Mountain Time Zone, Central Time Zone, Eastern Time Zone, Atlantic Time Zone, New Foundland Time Zone, Greenland Time Zone. Latitude and Longitude ▶ The lines of Longitude and Latitude are a way for people to find places on the globe. ▶ Latitude: ▶ ▶ The lines of latitude are parallel to the Equator. ▶ Latitude is 0 degrees at the Equator and increases north and south to 90 degrees at the poles. Longtitude: ▶ The lines of longitude are perpendicular to the Equator and cut the globe into hemispheres. ▶ Longtitude is 0 degrees at the Prime Meridian and increases east and west to 90 degrees towards the international date line. ▶ Any spot on the globe can be located by the coordinates of the lines that match up to the spot. ▶ For example New York is at 40.7128oN, 74.0059oW. Hemispheres • There are four hemispheres: the North, East, South, and West. • The north and south are divided by the Equator the east and west are divided by the Prime Meridian. • We are in the north western hemisphere. Oceans • • There are five oceans The Southern Ocean The Atlantic Ocean The Pacific Ocean The Indian Ocean, and The Arctic Ocean. Did you know the earth is mostly covered in water?
