Mathematics English The children will begin the year looking at place value and what each digit in a number is worth. Building on from what the children learnt in Year 2, they will be consolidating their ability in addition and subtraction using larger numbers. A greater focus will be placed on using and applying too, so these skills will be incorporated into word problems and investigations. Over this topic the children will enjoy literacy that focuses on our theme. Each class will be reading Stig of the Dump, which will influence them in their story telling skills and writing ability. Now the children are in Year 3, they will also be looking to improve the length and complexity of their sentences by adding more descriptive words and phrases; making their writing much more exciting and engaging. R.E. P.E. and Games Children will be looking at the religion of Islam. Whilst studying this the children will be learning about prayer mats, the Qur'an and the 5 Pillars. This is a good opportunity for the children to share experience and learn about different cultures, not just across the world but also with our own classroom. Children will be building on fundamental skills in order to improve their ability, balance and coordination. This will done through a series of activities that encourage the children to experiment with movement and fluidity. Also, children will become more familiar with working to support or in competition with other members of the class in order to achieve an overall objective. Music French Children will be listening to a range of different music. Then they will work to respond to the melodies they have heard and comment on the pitch and tempo of the music. Each class will become more aware of the different parts of the music and how they all fit together to form a final piece. Different songs will be practised so that the children can listen to feedback and improve their own performance. The children will begin the year with an introduction to greetings and simple exchanges about their name and how they are feeling. They will also learn their first French numbers, colours and classroom instructions and have the opportunity to join in with songs, games, finger rhymes and a French story.
