2nd 9 week Curriculum Letter
All about Post-Impressionism!
Kindergarten (AKS A2, B4, B5, C9, C10)
We will “visit” the world of Vincent Van Gogh! Students will look at paintings of Vincent Van Gogh’s flowers. We will
discuss movement in art and create a 3 dimensional flower using water color spray paint to decorate our flower
sculptures.
1st Grade (AKS A1, B5, C9, D11)
1st grade will “travel back in time” to study Paul Cézanne’s still lives of fruit and flowers. We will discuss what a still life is
and how artists used still lifes to inspire their art and make their skills better. Inspired by Cezanne, students will create
clay donuts that we will set up together to make our own delicious looking still life.
2nd Grade (AKS A2, B5, C8, D11, E13)
We will “travel back in time” to study the beautiful jungle art of Henri Rousseau. We will discuss the subject matter of
his paintings and what inspires him to create art. Students will create their own jungle scene with the Annistown Tiger
using water colors and tissue paper. We will discuss mixed media and collage.
3rd Grade (AKS A2, B4, B5, C7, C11, D13, E14)
We will “travel back in time” to study the bright art of Paul Gauguin. We will discuss his use of color in his landscapes
and discuss why he chose to represent the land differently than how we see it. Students will create their own seascape
and paint each part a different color than what is considered realistic.
4th Grade (AKS A2, B4, C8, C9, D11, E13)
We will “travel back in time” to study the beautiful jungle art of Henri Rousseau. We will discuss the subject matter of
his paintings and the location of his inspiration. Students will create a paper iguana sculpture inspired by the animals in
Henri Rousseau’s artwork.
5th Grade (AKS A2, B4, C8, D12, E14)
We will “travel back in time” to study the beautiful art of Vincent Van Gogh. We will discuss how he uses his brush to
create movement in his artwork that leads your eyes around his paintings. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night
and the movement he created in the sky, students will create coil pots with the moon and stars. We will discuss additive
sculpture, scoring and other pottery techniques.
