Using the Scientific Method
Title: Give your project a name, catchy and short, related to the experiment, what it does, or
who designed it.
Problem: Identify the question you wish to solve with your experiment.
Hypothesis: Predict what you think your experiment results will be.
Remember to use the statement: I think that……will happen because…..
Materials: List the materials, tools, and equipment used to build the experiment.
Variables: Include the Control, Independent and Dependent variables. (Remember that there
should be many control variables.)
Procedure: Describe your steps in the experiment. Describe the tests you did to show the
experiments steps. Give clear details of your steps!
Results: Keep notes on the results of the tests you did using your experiment. Record changes
your data using charts, graphs, pictures, or diagrams which show the experiment’s performance.
Conclusion: Briefly describe how your experiment did or did not match your hypothesis.
Explain the causes of what happened using data. Remember, if your conclusion does not match
your hypothesis it is alright! You learned something that you did not know before. Include
new ideas you have from this experiment.
