Merry Christmas (added 19.12.14)
We have had an extremely busy December at Burgh but it has also been an exciting, fun and
happy time too. The children have worked very hard; continuing with their learning as well as
performing in the nativity and Carol Singing in the local community. However, all the events we
have had in December would not have been so successful without the hard work and dedication
of our fabulous teaching and support staff as well as our extremely supportive and encouraging
parents and friends of Burgh Primary. I wish all our pupils, staff, parents and friends a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Save the Children - Christmas Jumper Day (added 11.12.14)
Thank you to all staff and pupils who wore Christmas jumpers today to raise money for Save the
Children. It was lovely to see so many different jumpers - including ones with lights! - being
worn to raise money for such a good cause. Visit our Christmas Gallery to see the photos.
Christmas Fayre - Thank you! (added 3.12.14)
Thank you to our parents, carers and friends who turned out this evening to support the
Christmas Fayre. It was a huge success, with lots of great buys, lovely food and fabulous gifts.
Thank you to all teaching and support staff for their hard work and to the Friends of Burgh who
helped out too. Thank you to our other stall holders for supporting the school. As usual we are
very grateful to Fun and Games Scotland for donating the use of their bouncy castle which
always proves to be a huge hit with the children.
I'm sure we will have made a good amount of money which will be a great boost to our school
funds, but what was really special about today was the sense of community and the Christmas
atmosphere in the school, it really was lovely and what makes Burgh such a great school!

Well done to all primary 7 pupils who had a great time at Glencoe last week. The children
enjoyed a variety of activities including archery, team building, mountain biking, rock climbing,
canoeing and sailing. All pupils had a go at all of the activities and were great at encouraging
each other to do their best. A huge thanks to Miss Carson and Ross Murray who joined the
children on their residential and also had a go at most of the activities! The children's behaviour
was excellent, they were a credit to their parents - well done!

Meet the Teacher (added 08.09.14)
What a great turn out we had for our meet the teacher evening. Thank you to all staff for
providing parents and carers with important information. This is one of the most successful meet
the teacher events we have had. The children - and some adults! - really enjoyed the petting
zoo. The tarantulas, snakes, cockroaches, frogs and rabbits were a real hit and hopefully they
were all packed away carefully and none of them are crawling around the school!
I will share the results of the evaluations once the information is all collated.
Thank you again for your support.
Ice Bucket Challenge for MacMillan Nurses (added 25.08.14)
Thank you to all the teaching staff, support staff and Mrs Agnew for taking part in the ice bucket
challenge. Mrs Barclay kindly nominated Mrs McAulay and asked if she would be willing to take
the challenge in front of all the pupils. Mrs McAulay was happy to accept the challenge however
she thought it would be more exciting to ask all the staff to take part. Unfortunately Miss
McIntosh and Miss Livingstone were exempt due to medical reasons but all other staff
participated. Not only was it great fun for the children to see the teachers get soaked but it was
also a good opportunity to talk to the children about the power of social media and the
importance of charity work. Thanks to everyone who took part and who made a charity
donation. See the photos in our Gallery and view the short video HERE.

Burgh Primary School - Families and Schools Together Programme (added 24.03.14)
We are delighted to announce an excellent opportunity for the pupils and parents/carers in
primary 1 to 3. We have secured funding from Save the Children to run an eight week
programme called FAST - Families and Schools Together. FAST is an after school programme,
where parents and children come along to take part in a range of fun activities which help to
promote our ethos of a friendly, caring schoool community. FAST will take place in our school on
Thursdays from 3pm until 5:30pm and during this time you will all receive a light meal. We feel
this is an excellent opportunity for us to promote partnership with parents but more importantly
it will give parents a chance to meet up and have time to "play" with their children and to chat to
other parents. We also need parents involved in helping to run the FAST programme, so if you
are interested please contact Mrs McAulay or Mrs McCool at the school.
The FAST programme will start on Thursday 1st May. We need YOU to help make this a
success!
Musical Peformance (added 24.03.14)
Well done to primary 6/7 and primary 7 who performed for their parents and carers on Friday.
The classes had been working with Paragon to develop their own short musical composition
based around the themes of the Victorians and Romeo and Juliette. The children played a variety
of instruments and performed very well - well done!
Easter Service (added 24.03.14)
The children will be going to Rutherglen Old Parish Church on Thursday 3rd April at 10am. Some
pupils will perform a short play conveying the Easter Story and we will also hear from pupils in
each class what they have been learning about this term. Please come along and join us.
End of Term (added 24.03.14)
Please remember that school stops on Friday 4th April at 2:30pm. We will start back at
school on Tuesday 22nd April.
Book Week (added 10.03.14)
Last weeks book week was very successful. The children enjoyed a variety of literacy activities
which will hopfully ignite and continue a love of reading for our pupils. The author visit for p4 p7 was a great success and the bedtime stories went down really well, with almost 100 children
staying after school for hot chocolate and a story. Thank you to all the parents who supported
the book week, the response from our parents was really good, in particular the response to the
paired reading session.
School Uniform (added 06.02.14)
We are very proud of our school uniform at Burgh and we want to encourage everyone to wear
the pale blue and navy blue which are our school colours. Ordering your uniform will now be
even easier as we have organised partnerships with Tesco Clothing Online and Bright Sparks and
they will be selling our uniform from now on. Your child will have had a letter and a leaflet
explaining how to access Tesco online but there is also a link on the website which will make it
even easier to access. Bright Sparks shop will also be selling our school uniform. The shop is
on Farmeloan Road round the corner from the school and they can be contacted by phoning
0141 647 9080. All new clothing will have a slightly different version of the school badge but I do
understand that some children will continue to wear the original badge until this is phased out.
P6/7 Trip to Victorian Times (added 25.02.14)
Primary 6/7 are learning about The Victorians this term and as part of their topic they will be
recreating a Victorian classroom on Friday 28th February. This will introduce children to the
differences between school today and school in Victorian Times. Children will take part in
Victorian lessons such as drill, arithmetic, writing, and religious education. Photos will follow
soon!
Rights Respecting School (added 03.02.14)
We are delighted to have received our ROC (Recognition of Commitment). This means that we
have officially begun our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School. Well done to Mrs
McCool and the Rights Respecting team for all their hard work. The next step is to implement an
action plan and then to work towards achieving Level 1 Rights Respecting School status. You can
see the ROC Logo on the top right of our website.
