GetFit Camps very own Candace Sayler
competed in her very first Triathlon in July.
The event took place bright and early in
Stettler last month. The race included a
750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km
run. She completed the race in 1 hour, 45
minutes and 21 seconds. Candace came in
22nd out of 36 of all participants in the
sprint, 11 out of 21 in her gender category,
and 2nd in age category for women.
“I hated the swim; the temperature was great, but the wind was horrible. For my first
ever (and as a non endurance athlete), it wasn’t horrible. I think I may do another.”
She is hoping to do the Innisfail triathlon in September with her teammate Sarah, who
wasn’t able to compete in the Stettler triathlon due to injury.
Great job Candace!
Grilled Peach and Spinach Salad
This is a great, healthy summer salad that takes
advantage of the great summer produce. You could
make an entire meal out of this salad by adding some
grilled chicken or turkey.
Ingredients:
3 ripe peaches, pitted and cut into wedges
1/4 cup Balsamic vinaigrette dressing**
6 cups packed baby spinach
Quarter small red onion, sliced thinly
3 tbsp. sliced almonds, toasted
1. Place peaches on greased grill over medium-high
heat; grill , turning frequently and brushing with half
of the dressing, until softened, about 3 minutes.
2. In large bowl, toss together spinach, red onion, remaining dressing and peaches.
Garnish with almonds
** This recipe was originally created to use Newman’s Own Balsamic Vinaigrette
Dressing, it can usually be found at Co-op.

year, they still worked hard and are setting their sights on
next year. Come down to Canyon Ski Hill and cheer them on!
They race August 9th at 10:30am.

Surviving Summer Fitness
You’ve almost made it, summer vacation is half over, one more month to go. Staying
fit and active in the summer can sometimes pose challenges, whether it’s finding time
away while the kids are on vacation or trying to stay cool. Here are some tips on
surviving summer and staying active.
 Cooler workout times– try working out in the early morning or in the evening
while it the outdoor temperature is cooler.
 Stay hydrated– drinking water before, during and after a workout will help to
regulate your body temperature.
 Go for non-traditional workouts– while it is a beautiful time of year to go for a
run, and the gym is air conditioned try some less traditional “workouts.” Take
the kids to the corn maze or zoo, you won’t get a hard core workout but you
will get in your ten thousand steps for the day. Or try swimming your laps at the
lake instead of the pool. You can explore local trails via bicycle, or hike out west.
You can even take the kids to the park and do your workout there.
 Stay Routine– summer is the time of foot-loose and fancy free but
keeping some kind of schedule will help you feel success full with your summer fitness goals.
 Remember to sleep– the hardest part about summer is that it stays light
out for so long into the evening. As much as you may want to stay up until
dark, try to train yourself to go to bed before dark, your body will thank
you come fall.
