Lights for Lydia is a premier fundraiser that illuminates the CSRA as a beacon
of hope to those battling cancer and commemorates loved ones lost. Financial sponsors already this year are Augusta Plastic Surgery; Alice David MD; ET Industrial Supply;
Judson Hickey DMD; Bipin Chudgar MD in
memory of his beloved Daksha; Medical College of Georgia Cancer Center; and A. Stephenson Wallace, Attorney. These sponsors’
generosity and luminary sales keep Lydia’s
services free.

Around the Nation - Volunteer Sewers in Washington State

Caryn, expertly sews a tote.
It started with a volunteer in Aiken, South Carolina who
loved to sew for Lydia. When Judy Wentz’s husband transferred
to Washington state, Lydia sewing kits were on the moving truck.
Since arriving in Washington, Judy has received monthly
kits and sewn Lydia totes, retail bags, and recruited friends to sew,
too. This growing ministry on the opposite end of the nation now
includes recruitment of a sewer’s son-in-law who generously pays

spring: Back Row - Nancy Rayner, Bev
A phenomenal example of the outreach, recently Judy and Reginbal, Judy Wentz, and Front row
twenty-four friends attended Quilt Retreat. During those five days Marilyn Sollers, Mary Garoutte, Tillie Smith,
three boxes of sewing were filled for Lydia. The boxes arrived with and Jane Hagarty.
75 Lydia totes, three retail bags sewn, and almost 700 tissue holders
sewn. The Washington friends also included pocket some size tissue and note cards. The total volunteer hours for
the shipment was 235.5 hours.
Currently Volunteers sew and ship Lydia totes every month from their homes in Arizona, Delaware, Montana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, Washington state, and of course from Georgia. Correspondence Volunteers write encouraging notes monthly from as far as California. The Lydia Project is proud of
volunteers’ efforts locally and nationwide. For more information on volunteering from anywhere in the nation contact Lydia’s Director of Volunteers, Ms. Shelly Olmos, locally 706.736.5467 or toll free 1.877.593.4212.

When Young People get Involved….
Augusta Christian Schools placed purple collections boxes in classrooms for Lydia 10/2529/2010. In one week youth collected:
•
2,582 gallon size bags for the Lights fundraiser campaign.
•
2,502 pens for totes.
•
114 tubes of lotion for totes.
•
240 stamps for mailing encouraging notes.
•
1,140 assorted Note Cards.
•
$55 in Wal-Mart gift cards; and $15 in cash.
•
And a purple candle, devotional books, hand
sanitizer, bookmarks and booklets - all
placed in a basket women select from when
visiting Lydia for services.
This phenomenal collection happened under
the direction of
Head of School, Dr.
David Piccolo and
the kind coordination of Ms. Cheryl
Downing, College
Guidance Counselor. Dr. Piccolo
also came up with another idea to
support Lydia. He allowed students
to wear hats one day for a $1 donation and teachers and staff wore
jeans with purple one day for a donation of $2. The outcome: a total
of $315.19 for the women Lydia
serves.

have surgery this summer. We are going to
make it. We are standing on God’s promise.
Thank you all so much. Our prayers are with
you.” -Joyce (SC) Recipient
