(1) Introduction
People look at the Civil War in American History and see that it was really bad
and that it will never happen ever again. Luckily it won’t but I will try to tell you so
much about it that it will feel like you are actually in the Civil War. Your mind will
now be in American History Mode. Think of all of the things you know about
American History. So you might know some of this but now you will know more. I will
tell you about two important battles in the Civil War. One of them is the first one
that happened in the Civil War, The Battle Of Fort Sumter and the other one is the
Battle Of Gettysburg and it is the war that caused Lincoln to make one of the most
historic speeches of all time. It is called the Gettysburg Address, you can read the
Gettysburg Address on the back of my book. The Civil War that I told you about
earlier was probably the worst American War in the History of the United States.
The American Civil War was the worst American War.
(2) Authors Opinion
This is a very short Chapter but I have some things to say. Did you know that
farm boys really wanted so bad to go to the war that they would lie to their
mothers and say that they are going to town getting apples, when they even
wouldn’t see their mothers for the next 3 years? All that just because the boys
didn’t like their boring farm life. Would you do that??? I certainly wouldn’t even
though I am male.
(3) Gettysburg
Gettysburg was a terrible battle. It was the battle that was most northern in
the Civil War. It happened in Pennsylvania, the first state that wanted no slavery.
The battle of Gettysburg lasted 3 days and the north won the battle. A general
whose last name was “Pickett” sent a big charge including 15,ooo troops. It was a
risky choice but at the end, the Union won and Lee, the General of the whole
Confederate army lost almost ⅓ of his army. But Abraham Lincoln didn’t like the
battle even though his army won. It was because so many people had died.
Thousands, upon thousands died. So he made a speech that lasted only two
minutes the speaker before had a very long speech that lasted more than 2 hours!
But then he said after Lincoln’s speech that in 2 minutes he said more than 2 hours.
There was a humongous cemetery where the people that fought in the north got
buried there. “For the people, by the people”... Was a part
of Lincoln's 2-minute speech.
(4) A First Person Narrative (Abraham Lincoln)
Me as a president is so harsh! I can’t believe that about half of my whole
country literally split apart and totally left. It is so crazy! I need that country back
because they are half of my whole country! They are also very important. They are a
big part in my country. They can’t just go like that just because they need slavery.
Um, daaaaaad I don’t mean to interrupt… but Oh what is it son. I’m leaning that we need cotton from the souCOTTON! OH YES! WE NEED A LOT O’ COTTON. WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT
COTTON!!! That is what I am trying to say dad, we need cotton. We need cotton. Good job TaYAY!!! Yeah, hooray son. Sorry, had to spend some time with my son, Tad. He is a
good boy and he is even learning to fight! Haha! Good little Tad. See, I don’t just
have to worry about the war. I have to worry abou- (“cough” “cough.”) Oh no! I think
Tad is a bit sick. But I have to go to the war. This is my duty! All right to that
speech I was going to make. I have to make a speech at Gettysburg… Done! All
right Tad I hope you feel better. Bye (“cough.”) dad. (“cough.”)
(5) Essay
I think Fort Sumter was too harsh for the Union because of the ships that
surrounded, the fort is in the water, and the Fort couldn’t defend.
The ships surrounded the fort and had cannons. Cannons are a very big
weapon with cannon balls that are in the cannons and the cannons shoot the
cannon balls. The cannon balls do a lot of damage to what they are firing at. So
Fort Sumter got pretty much demolished.
The fort is in the water! I think the Union thought that nobody could get to
Fort Sumter because it’s in the water. True, but they can’t get there either, they
need a submarine. Oh wait! They didn’t even invent submarines yet! So they had to
do it by ship. It took longer to get there. So the Union couldn’t defend, which
my next paragraph is actually about.
The Union couldn’t defend. The ships also interacted with this. They guarded
Fort Sumter like it was roval for a king. But really, they just wanted to destroy the
place. The soldiers tried but weren’t even close to making it not
destroyed. Fort Sumter is rubble now and the brutal Civil War starts.
(6) Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was in the water. Fort Sumter was the first battle of the Civil
War. Fort Sumter was a very important war. Lincoln tried to send supplies but the
confederate got hold of the supplies. Finally, the Confederate bombed the Fort and
the Civil War started. Fort Sumter was in South Carolina, a southern state. South
Carolina was the first state that seceded. It persuaded and got 10 more states to
be called the Confederacy. Fort Sumter was owned by the Union in the South before
South Carolina took over Fort Sumter. The cannons shot at the Fort, many Union
people jumped out in shock, and most of all just wanting to be alive! A lot of people
got captured. Some people got injured. Few people, but some died from the battle.
The first battle was important. It was named Fort Sumter, the
battle.
(7) A First Person Narrative (Jefferson Davis)
I, Jefferson Davis am the president of the Confederacy. I will win this war
whatever it takes. I don’t even get this? Why would the Union even want to attack
us when we just wanted to be a whole separate country. It’s probably that blasted
Abraham Lincoln of course. He just came in whining for us to come back! NO! I have
no tolerance for his presence in the whole world! We just want slavery, that is it! He
is whining for me to come back? Well, if he is just going to keep on whining I will get
all my things that they have… including Fort Sumter… That could start a war… Eh.
We can easily win the war with all the materials we need no lousy hardtack. But we
just need to get food and then we are going to a new
country!
(8) The Ships That Surrounded Fort Sumter
The ships that surrounded Fort Sumter were very “upgraded” in shape, and
size. They had bigger cannons. No, I don’t mean in music a “cannon” but like
cannons with cannon balls inside them. The ships had more floor on them and used
higher technology to upgrade. The ships couldn’t be attacked because of their high
strength and power. They were strong, surrounding Fort Sumter, and had cannons.
Fort Sumter was also in the water so ships could go! Also, it would be hard also for
the Union to get to Fort Sumter because Fort Sumter is in the middle of the water.
Plus of course, the ships were surrounding it.

(9) Conclusion
The battles of Gettysburg and Fort Sumter were very important. They were
very important battles in the Civil War. Think about being Abraham Lincoln and put
yourself in his shoes. How many decisions would you have to do? Everyone wouldn’t
like you and 11 states even split away! Imagine you as Jefferson Davis. What
choices would you do? How would you retaliate? All these choices you would have
to make. American history is very good to learn, I hope you will now read more
historical fiction books in your life now and be entertained by America’s, or
any countries, or any things, past in life. The Gettysburg Address
