San Pedro de Atacama is one of the most visited cultural
attractions in Chile, preferred by millions of tourists worldwide,
considered as the archaeological capital of the country thanks
to its geographical environment.
The town is the center of the native culture of Atacama, who
inhabited the desert a long time ago. The museum Padre Le
Paige has about 4,000 skulls, countless mummies, weapons and
bowls in exhibition. The main economic activity of the area is
based on tourism and agriculture.
San Pedro de Atacama has a variety of services for tourists who
visit every year, among which stand out hotels from 2 to 5 stars,
restaurants and bars, crafts, call centers, hospitals and police.
For adventure seekers, there is a wide variety of activities to
participate in, including hiking, mountain bike, sandboarding,
and horseback riding.
Its stable climate makes any time of the year a good time to
visit. However, if you dislike cold weather, June to September
can be uncomfortable when temperatures are very low at night.
Also, if you want to avoid the crowds, tourism explodes during
high season, so you might feel overwhelmed by the number of
tourists if you come from December to February.

Santiago, the core of the country, and beautiful harbor
city Valparaiso
Santiago
The capital of Chile is a dynamic and modern city where colonial
mansions sit among soaring skyscrapers. The city is reinventing
itself, with arts, nightlife, and restaurants.
Santiago offers much more than one might anticipate. Here,
ancient traditions coexist with 21st century life on every street
and in each neighborhood. You’ll find everything from small
cafés with Wifi, exclusive boutiques, great bookstores and fine
handicrafts to big malls and shopping strips which offer all of
the top brands.
This metropolis, which is home to over six million people, offers
hundreds of options for every budget or interest as well as
activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
On a clear day, fresh after winter showers, Santiago warms up in
one of the most spectacular settings of any city in the world. A
glance through the downtown blocks reveals a mighty circle of
mountains - the snowcapped Andean peaks to the east, and a
smaller coastal range to the west – which surround the Chilean
capital.
Valparaiso
Valparaíso was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in
2003. Since then, new hotels, restaurants and bookstores have
appeared throughout its geography bringing new life to its
classical character. Nevertheless, its port culture remains and it
is considered the main historical support of “Pancho” - as they
call the city with affection; this is especially visible in the port
area. You cannot leave this city without getting on one of the
heritage elevators that are still in use, or take a tour of the bay
in a boat from the harbor. You must also try the chorrillana potatoes, onion, egg and fried meat- or go out and party at the
subida Ecuador (Ecuador Uphill Street).

at Sotomayor square and enjoy a Chilean style seafood lunch.
Then, you will take a trip to another city, Viña del Mar, to visit the
flower clock, the Moai brought from Easter Island, and a photo

Easter Island or Rapa Nui “The navel of the world”
Easter Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population
center (Tahiti or Chile). This island is a triangle of volcanic rocks in
the South Pacific, and it is famous for the giant stone monoliths,
called Moai, that dot its coastline. The early settlers named
the island “Te Pito O Te Henua” (Navel of The World). Admiral
Roggeveen, who came to the island on Easter Day in 1722,
named it Easter Island. Nowadays, the land, the people and their
language are all referred to locally as Rapa Nui. There has been
much controversy and confusion concerning the origins of the
Rapa Nui people. Thor Heyerdahl proposed that the people who
built the statues were of Peruvian descent, due to a similarity
between Rapa Nui and Incan stonework. Some have suggested
that Easter Island is the remnant of a lost continent, or the
result of an extra-terrestrial influence. However, archaeological
evidence indicates that the discovery of the island was by
Polynesians who were led, according to legend, by Hotu Matua
around 400 AD. Upon their arrival, besides the impressive and
enigmatic statues, the islanders possessed the Rongorongo
script; the only written language in Oceania. The island is also
home to many petroglyphs (rock carvings), as well as traditional
wood carvings, tapa (bark) crafts, tattooing, string figures, dance
and music.
Easter Island remains to this day as one of the most unique places
you will ever encounter; an open air museum showcasing a
fascinating, but unfortunately lost, culture. The Rapa Nui are among
the friendliest people you will ever meet, and the landscape is
truly amazing - with its volcanic craters, lava formations, beaches,
brilliant blue water, and archaeological sites.

Sites of interest
Livingston Island
The South Shetland Islands are an
archipelago located in the South Antarctic
Ocean, and north of the great Antarctic
Peninsula, as part of the highest, driest
and coldest continent on the planet.
The beauty of this remote destination
is created by its imposing glaciers,
magnificent channels and the impressive
fauna that inhabits the area. Livingston
Island is a surprising spot where you
will find a great variety of species – your
attention will be captivated by Chinstrap,
Gentoo and the magnificent Macaroni
penguins, with their distinctive orange/
yellow crests. Elephant seals, Antarctic
Giant Petrels and Snowy Sheathbill are
also to be seen.
Deception Island
An impressive volcano, still considered
active and famous for its incomplete
crater which is at sea level. Sailing
and walking in this zone can result
in a fabulous experience. One of the
greatest attractions of this island is the
combination of rock towers that come
out of the sea. This amazing geological
formation is known as “Neptune’s
Bellows”. In this outstanding place,
whose shape is like a horseshoe, the
warm coastal waters can get close
to 65°C, in contrast with the freezing
surrounding waters in this corner of the
world. Here you will also visit Whalers
Bay, where we will see the remains of a
former whaling station.
Aitcho Island
This island is located near the north entrance
of the English Strait, in the South Shetland
Islands, between Greenwich and Robert
Islands. The main attractions here are the
large colonies of Chinstrap and Gentoo
Penguins that cover the area. Furthermore,
it is possible to find great quantities of
Antarctic Giant Petrels and some protected
animals, such as the Weddell Seal.
Lemaire Channel
Known for being one of the most
beautiful spots in the area and this
is why it is also known as the “Kodak
Gap”, due to the impression it produces
among the tourists, making them take
innumerable photographs of nature at
its best. If the weather allows and the
channel is not blocked by the ice that
is typical of this inhospitable corner of
the world, you will see playful seals that
rest on wandering icebergs, as well as
Minke whales that are frequently found
in these cold waters.
Petermann Island
This island is endowed with a unique
beauty due to its immense granite walls
and the abundant snow that composes
the scenery. It also has the largest and
southernmost colony of Adelie and
Gentoo penguins, migratory species
typical of Antarctica. On Petermann
Island you will be able to see a colony
of Antarctic Blue Eyed Shag, a species
much appreciated for its solemn stance
and singular presence. In summer,
Elephant Seals come out in groups to
enjoy the sun, basking on their sides
over the rocks of the island.
Cuverville Island
Upon arrival, you will find yourself on
a small island dominated by a great
amount of lichen growth and deep
moss on the rocks, the only botanical
species that you can find on the
surface of Antarctica. As part of the
scenery you will see various birds, such
as Wilson Petrel, South and Brown
Skuas. Here you will be delighted with
one of the largest colonies of Gentoo
penguins.
Port Lockroy
A wide bay located on the southwestern
point of Wiencke Island. This site was
used by whalers almost one century
ago. There is an old British scientific base
which is now a museum. Nowadays it is
not unusual to see Minke and Humpback
whales cruising along the coast.
Paradise Bay
From Paradise Bay you will be able to
enjoy one of the most magnificent
views that the Antarctic territory has to
offer. Splendid scenes of glaciers and
mountains are enhanced by fascinating
fauna, such as Gentoo Penguins and
Minke Whales.
Half Moon Island
The volcanic origin of this island gives it
a very particular surface formation. On
it you will find Chinstrap and Gentoo
penguins, Antarctic Blue Eyed Shags
and Skuas. In this area you may find the
distinguished looking Weddell Seal and
some Elephant Seals that occasionally
visit the island.
