A NEW ERA
THIRD MEETING BETWEEN THE TEAMS
First-year Bowling Green State University football coach Urban Meyer is the 15th person to
lead the Falcon football program. An Ohio native, he brings 15 years of experience as a Division I assistant and has coached in seven bowl
games. He most recently was the receivers coach
at Notre Dame after serving on staffs at Ohio
State, Illinois State and Colorado State. He has
served on staffs guided by Earle Bruce, Sonny
Lubick, Lou Holtz and Bob Davie.
This will be third meeting (all in Columbia)
between the two teams. In 1995, the Falcons
came away with a 17-10 victory, while the
Tigers exacted revenge in the 1998 season
opener, 37-0.
After playing shortstop in the Atlanta Braves organization right after high school, Meyer played
collegiately at the University of Cincinnati where
he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in
1986. He later earned a master’s degree in sports
administration from Ohio State in 1988.

the words “Bowling Green” on the front of its home jersey. BGSU
will wear orange jerseys with white pants at home and white

Game Notes - BG posted its first win over a Big Eight foe to even its record at
1-1...the contest was one of two halves-the Tigers owned the first 30 minutes
possessing the ball for five more minutes while building a 10-0 lead and
outgaining the Falcons 215-104...while the offense put the Falcons ahead to
stay in the third quarter, the defense was limiting Missouri to just 13 total
yards...the defense then turned in the biggest play of the game stopping a
Tiger running play on fourth-and-one at their 10-yard line early in the fourth
quarter...a 41-yard field goal by Derek Schorejs gave the Falcons their final
margin as the defense yielded just 113 yards of total offense and four first
downs in the second half...BG possessed the ball for 21:17 of the 30 second
half minutes.
