Next week we celebrated National Literacy and Numeracy Week. During the
week children will be involved in special Literacy and Numeracy activities. At
Westbreen Literacy and Numeracy is a focus every day as we believe that

Parent Opinion Survey
The Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD) has
required all Government schools in Victoria to survey their students, staff and parent
communities. The use and importance of such opinion surveys has in fact increased in
recent years, with the Minister for Education Blueprint for Government Schools
making a very clear statement that “all schools will be provided with parent, teacher
and student opinion data on a consistent basis.”
Designed and eventually collated by DEECD, the standardized Parent Opinion Survey
containing 55 items is administered during Term 3. And so it was last week that at
the push of a computer key, that 40 “lucky” family names were identified to receive a
copy of this year’s survey. These surveys were distributed, on Wednesday 24 th July
and on completion, they are to be returned to school in the provided sealed envelopes.
As is the case with all such opinion surveys, anonymity and confidentiality are
guaranteed, with DEECD undertaking all aspects of the collation and data analysis
and distribution processes.
The information returned to school provides valuable data for our School
Management Team and community in general, as well as to the ‘system’ in general.
I would take this opportunity to encourage those families that receive a survey to
complete it out as carefully and thoughtfully as possible, and to return to school in the
envelope provided by Friday 2nd August. It is extremely important that this timeline
be adhered to, because completed surveys are returned in the one package by courier
to the Department.
PLANNING for 2014!!!!
Enrolments for 2014 are invited and parents are welcome to complete their child’s
enrolment through the Office at any time. Parents simply need to complete the school
enrolment form and provide evidence of student date of birth and immunization
record. Once the enrolment process is complete new enrolments are placed on the
student register for 2014 classes. It would be appreciated for planning purposes if
parents were able to finalise their enrolments by the end of this term.
Have a wonderful week
