February Brings Lots of Activities!
Take a few moments and read through the
newsletter for important updates on PTA
activities taking place in February and March.
See you at school!
Titan Trot Takes Place
March 1
In a few short weeks, our last
BIG PTA fundraiser of the year,
the Titan Trot, takes place at
River Place Elementary. Show
your support for RPE by
sponsoring your children as they
run for the school. Students will
run the Titan Trot course during
Specials on March 1. All
sponsorship dollars support PTA
programs and activities that benefit our great school.
The PTA suggests a sponsorship total of $20 per student,
but any amount is appreciated and helps us reach our
annual fundraising goal. In addition to sponsorships, spirit
signs are available for $50. The signs will be posted
throughout the course, and can be used to cheer your
runner on or advertise your local business. To sponsor a
runner or purchase a spirit sign, visit the PTA store. The
deadline for securing spirit signs is Feb 20; and the deadline
for sponsorships is March 1.
More information about the Titan Trot can be found on the
PTA website.
Titan Talent Show performance submission
deadline is February 22
The curtain will rise on the Titan Talent Show in May, and all
Titans who want to participate must submit the consent
form and associated music/lyrics by Friday, February 22.
Performances can include magic, dance, vocals, gymnastics,
instrumentals, and just about anything else your Titan star
can dream up. Please visit the PTA website for details on
performance submission requirements and rules regarding
costumes, lyrics, 2 minute performance time limit, etc. Click

Fun Times in the Titan Garden -- Volunteers
needed for garden classes and maintenance
VP Fundraising
Spring is fast approaching and the Titan Garden needs your
help. Garden classes start again this month and we need
volunteers to help with class time. Click here to see the
volunteer schedule and sign up.
And don't pass up the opportunity for your family to adopt
the garden for a week. No gardening expertise is necessary--you'll get complete instructions for garden care (mostly
watering). Check the online schedule to sign up for an
available week this spring.

Did You Know?
The Leander ISD
Clothes Closet,
sponsored by your
PTA, assisted more
than 340 students
during the first
semester of this
school year.
Coming Soon!
Titan Trot
Scholastic Book Fair
Our cool season has been fabulous, with garden classes
celebrating a successful harvest on "Saladbration Day!" Our
kinder, first and third grade Titans harvested, prepared and
ate salads made with kale, lettuce, carrots, radishes,
cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower from the garden.
We continued our celebration of all things nutritious with
Coach Fyffe's help during our Eat a Rainbow activity for
third graders where students tried fruits and vegetables of
all colors, both familiar and unfamiliar, and learned about
preparing healthy roasted vegetables. Thanks to all of you
for your continued support of our efforts!
Check the Lost & Found!
Leftover items will be

The RPE Lost & Found is bursting at
the seams. There are countless
jackets, lunch boxes, books, water
bottles, and other items. Please
remind your children to check the
LEEF Used Book Drive
Lost & Found area outside the cafeteria and claim missing
belongings. All items not claimed by Friday, February 8, will
be donated to the Leander Clothes Closet.

February is American Heart Month & Heart Health
Month
Did you know that children should get at least
one hour of physical activity every day? And
most of that should be moderate to vigorous
in intensity. Any activity is good, but activities
that leave them breathless are even better!
The more activity kids get, especially of the
"breathless" variety, the stronger their hearts
will become. Benefits include:
 increased energy and ability to concentrate
 healthy weight maintenance
 good sleeping habits
 lifelong foundation for physical activity
Couple physical activity with healthy eating and you create
an even stronger defense in protecting the heart.
Children should have the following:
 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily
 low-fat or nonfat milk, water or 100 percent fruit
juice (juice in moderation)
 whole grains
 high fiber foods
 lean meat, poultry or fish twice per week
 low-fat dairy products
Good habits started now can help your children remain
physically active and healthy throughout their lives.
